Bogus alarm company?

I've just had a call from a company who I believe to be bogus, asking if I'd be interested in receiving a free alarm system, which they're trialing in the area. There was a long speech about police not responding to alarms anymore (and asking if I had an alarm) and explaining that this new system is wireless and will enable immediate response units to be activated.

'Luckily' they had one available appointment left today at 1.30pm (presumably trying to find out if I'd be in) and then when I asked for a bit more information, she said there was a website - gave me an address that didn't work - and when I asked for a contact number, she hung up.

The called sounded like a young well spoken professional, but I'm guessing it's a scam, so beware!

My wife received a similar call and was equally suspicious. She later called Crime Prevention at the police to alert them to it.

I had a similar call from somebody (male) who spoke so quickly I couldn't understand them properly asking (I think) if I wanted a crime survey on my house. It was a call centre touting for business.

I think you have to be extra wary of late, when answering calls, as I've had 2 different scams in the last few weeks! One's a fraudulent Microsoft Windows agent that says your comp is faulty & downloading stuff on the Internet without you knowing (They want about £150 to fix the problem) Makes me laugh every time they call (About 6 times now) as I've not got Windows, I have Linux! The other is a compensation claims company, they're very rude & nasty I might add!
