Hi Leticia & Jonathan,
lovely to "meet" you both - I've been in Tooting for 10 & 1/2 years, living & working here (own business). It's a great mix of so many people - I do hope we get a bookshop of sorts here sometime soon though!
I think the Oasis bookshop is fun to rummage around in. Now that it's virtually adjacent to what could become a cool-ish pub in the new incarnation of The Wheatsheaf, who knows how Tooting Bec crossroads could evolve? We have recording studios over the road...let'sget a functioning art gallery/bookshop/coffee-shop etc. up and running...
Introducing myself too. Hi! I have only today joined Streetbook and have already received an email encouraging me to post, so here goes.
Resident in Tooting over thirty years. Nobody left near us who was here when we moved in. As long retired, although not so old really, I play about on my computer most days, pursuing my interest in modern jazz mostly. Also like reading a lot and haunt Tooting and Balham libraries incessantly. I like the new place in Tooting but hope they will fix the squeaking door mechanism soon :-) I still think of libraries as havens of peace and quiet where the least murmur would be "shushed" by the staff and everyone else. Times move on, however.
I certainly agree, Tracey, that the area contains such a variety of people and it would be really good if this medium were to overcome to some extent the inner city reticence to interact.
Sorry to intrude in this conversation, but i am not sure if mine is working properly? I have tried to start a conversation 3 times now and it doesnt seem to post - can anyone help
Hi all. Been living in Tooting for 10 years now. I'm an artist & freelance graphic designer. Interesting to hear about the art gallery. @Colm - not sure Tooting Market is the right place, however will be nice if there is a local gallery that could actually represent local artists. Any other artists around?
Hello LSW and Rodney :) Thanks for introducing yourselves in here.
With regards to the art gallery being in the market, I think it's just what's missing from there The Tooting market reminds me of the indoor Brixton market, I think there is an art gallery there... But I could be wrong...
It would be great if the art gallery sold pieces from local artists, I'd love to put some of my photos (of Tooting) in there!
I would be interested in an art gallery for local artists, I live in Tooting for nearly two year now and I'm a do realistic paintings of several subjects, also pets.
Hi Leticia, welcome to Tooting, you will like the area, shopping-Centre market n so on, nice place to live, i am in Balham sw12 just next to you, so be happy n enjoy.
Hi LG..sorry for my long absence but its been hectic! I'm still keen to put yr photos on UKL but have been involved with trying to start an awareness campaign about Battersea Power Station. Hi Leticia. So, what do you make of Tooting, and where did you arrive from?
I really like Tooting, it felt like home right from the start. My favourite bits are the common, the old market, and all the restaurants.
Prior to that we were living in North London (Islington) for too many years...

I'll have to check that out - no bookshop down here in Tooting Broadway :-| thanks for the mention of Oasis!
Apparently one of the new businesses coming into Tooting Market will be an art gallery. Not sure of the timescales though.

Hi Paula,
Sorry you're having trouble. I'll send you a direct mail and hopefully we can figure out what's wrong.
