Train link CJ to Heathrow
Hi. I read last night in a free mag that came thought the door, that Wandsworth council are exploring the train link from Junction to Heathrow again. From what I knew before this was shelved by BAA 6 months ago. Can't see anything of the council website either. This was a brilliant idea requiring minimal investment of 4 km of new track. I fear this is a red herring that it's back, anyone know any more?

Hullo RM,
It's here...

Agree sounds like a grand idea.
My neighbour who is cabin crew was saying how easy it is to get the train to Feltham and the bus to the terminals. He goes this way rather than by tube because it is quicker. Do we really need to spend this money when so much else it being cut?
I've tried this route, the train is good but the bus is a bit erratic and doesn't have much room for suitcases.
Hullo Drole,
A friend is currently commuting from South Battersea to Heathrow every day using the Feltham bus link. It's never failed her and I'm amazed.
Last time I used it the buses just weren't there. Three hours to get back to Lavender Hill...
This rail proposal is the way forward. BAAs original proposal had all the trains going through Richmond. The plan died because BAA couldn't afford replacement of the level crossings between there and Barnes.
Wandsworth's proposal sends some of the trains via Hounslow and this is do-able. Trains to Heathrow from the South should have come about years ago. It's literally a 'no-brainer'.
I seriously support this plan.

I've tried the Feltham route a couple times (back from Heathrow), and it was hassle. Definitely not easy. I'm not that inclined to try it again.
The authorities don't seem to encourage/promote it as a route either. Maybe if they improved the Feltham-Heathrow link it would be more viable.
i've used te CJ to Heathrow via Fetham over the years and always found it relieable. Nevertheless it amazes me how it takes us years and years to link our airports to anywhere by rail - surely its a planning no-brainer.
Incidentally is there anyone around who thinks it is a good idea to let companies run a premium prices service (Gatwick - Heathrow - Standstead Express) rather than a subsidised cheaper service which may get people out of their cars.
It's astonishing that there is no link between Europe's largest junction train station and one of the world's biggest and busiest international airports which is little more than 10 miles away. Absolutely astonishing. It takes ages to get to Paddington and the Feltham route is unpleasant, inconvenient and just not good enough - those that approve of it are just being typically British in settling for second best. The lack of a CJ-HTW link makes the area feel like it's stuck in the past. Run properly it could generate a fortune. It should be right up there at the top of Boris' and local politicians and councillors agendas - it would be a massive vote winner.
I remember reading this discussion chain a while ago and just went on TFL to search for "clapham junction to Heathrow". It gave me four options, NONE of which was the route suggested above. Madness.
Yes, this really ought to happen. The old Southern Railway Co. first proposed a branch from Staines to the new airport in the mid/late 1940s!

just tried the TFL Journey Planner and it threw up 6 alternatives - 4 of which used the Feltham train link
Weird. How did you search? I put in Clapham Junction then chose Heathrow Terminal 3 from the drop down menu (2 options, Heathrow Central, I think, and T3).
i'd something pretty similar - most sent me on the Feltham link - one said go via Earls Courts and another via a different Southern Railway station.
I have no idea how their system works though!
I'm all for a CJ-Heathrow train. We used to use the Feltham link a few years ago when it was heavily promoted and found it quite good, but as others have commented the bus service has been falling apart. Now we take a bus to Hammersmith and then the tube, which seems to work.
The cheapest way is CJ overgound to West Brompton, district line earls court, piccadilly Line Heathrow. I did it last weekend and it took 55 minutes, and cost any amazingly cheap £1.40, that is one pound forty for all three legs, as you only tap in and out once. In this mega expensive city its nice to discover an occasional bargain
John, are we "allowed" to do that - should you not tap your oyster on the inter-change? Having not done that, i'm suprised it'd only charge you 1.40 - must be a glitch in the system!
I think you will find that you log in at CJ and then out at West Brompton from over ground to underground. You then log back in again for the underground.
No when I did it in December the change from overgound to underground at West Brompton does not involve touching in and out, therefore it is only one journey
this is confimed by the TFL website
bargain of the year, clapham junction to heathrow for £1.40
John
What you are saying is DEFINATELY incorrect. The charge for a single zone 1 journey i.e. Clapham Junction to West Brompton is £ 1.40
If you look again at the website you will see that it mentions two interchanges. At each and every interchange you should be tapping your oyster card in and out. You yourself have mentioned the 'three legs'.
If you speak to TFL for clarification I am sure they will confirm that I am saying.
afraid you are right - at West Brompton there is a pink "touch in - touch out" machine you are supposed to mean between the over and underground
