Blood oranges - anyone interested in sharing a case?

i love blood oranges, and the ones sold in the supermarkets aren't really a patch on proper blood oranges.  if i go to New Covent Garden at hideous o'clock and buy a crate, is anyone prepared to share them with me?  despite my craze for them, even i can't eat a crate of blood oranges before they go off.

Hi Lucy - not sure if you picked up my text message, but I'd love 20 oranges this time round please!! The first lot disappeared in 3 days...that's how delicious they are! Thanks!

Kate B

Hallo Lucy

Again confirming text and message for 10 more tomorrow please.

Lucy S

thanks for confirming numbers - will let you know if i have succeeded tomorrow morning.

Lucy S

we went to market, Emmasar came as my noble sidekick with a much stronger sense of direction than i have (v v easy, i have none), we found (some) blood oranges ... but not that many, so divided equally amongst us all, that comes to 9 oranges per person.  is that ok?  they are the same breed as last time i think, some quite a lot smaller, just as yummy.  they were also a bit more expensive than last time, combination of scarcity and end of season i suspect.  so 9 oranges comes to £2.39.

we did troll the market to find them, evidently last time i was lucky and asked exactly the right person to send me to the store that sold blood oranges to the other market traders - and they unfortunately were out this morning, but do promise to have more in by Monday.  Emmasar, being an immensely practical sidekick, took their number down so we can call ahead of time and check the blood orange supplies before setting off.

i can do another pick up Tuesday or Wednesday next week?  a final orange orgy?  to keep us til next season.

if you'd like to collect either today or tomorrow, as ever, text me to let me know - and i won't be around 1 - 3 pm today - or i can do a delivery round tomorrow morning?  not hideously early, i can behave and drive round delivering oranges while listening to the Archers.  let me know what you'd prefer.

Lucy S

PS am thinking of going to the Colliers Wood co-op meeting - anyone else?  or shall i just report back?

It was a nice early morning outing going with Lucy to the market. As Lucy has said, the the place she had bought the first lot didn't have any, Saturday activities are limited so we were lucky not to return empty handed.

Here it is - one picture of the only oranges available sadly, however as Lucy says more will be available and to avoid an empty run we can call beforehand. Oranges are rather small but tasty.

Will be posting other pictures from the flower market to give streetlifers an idea of what's available. Prices vary as Lucy was told, this winter having been pretty harsh on the continent, growing them in heated greenhouses has cost more.

Well done!!! I would love 9 just finished off my last batch of juice! Will come and collect later on

Cheers

Hi Lucy - I'll be over either this morning or tomorrow.

Can the Balham/Tooting Bexters who would like me to pick up and drop theirs off for them please PM me with your address.

Kate B

I'm working Sunday but will come over later on today to collect.  Very many thanks.

I have some skins collected for the lady who wants them, if she wants them!

Yvonne D

Hi Lucy - can you let me know where to collect from? Could call me on 8874 9340

Fiona M

Lucy - you are a star! Thanks so much for doing this. I love the fact that the expeditionary force is growing and now has its own official photographer/navigator!! Count me in for more if you do a midweek run.

mungomuffit

Hi Lucy, is 3pm ok? Or will you be out until 4pm? Either is fine for me!

Nicola Crow

Hi Lucy,

Yes, I'm in tonight and looking forward to the blood oranges....wouldn't want to put you out, I'm happy to collect from you if that's any easier? I can be at yours for 4pm or thereabouts...

Thanks!
Nic

mungomuffit

Hi, does anyone have Lucy's mobile number and can PM it to me (I promise I won't abuse the privilege!). I was about to head off to pick up my, Fiona and Ricky's oranges but I haven't heard back from Lucy yet to say yes or no.

mungomuffit

Hi Lucy, Fiona M and Ricky. This lovely weather has tempted me to open a bottle of sauvingon blanc, so probably best I don't pick up the oranges today. I'm around tomorrow all day, so if that works for everyone let me know.

Ricky L

Hi mungomuffit, that is hilarious. For the same reason, I was unable to collect my oranges on the Saturday except that in my case it was Pinot Grigio.

I will be around tomorrow.

Lucy S

it would be v helpful if you could come and collect, mainly because orchestrating so many people in different places is doing my head in ... and i really need to do some work tonight.  am up and about from now, 4.20 pm, my mobile is 0777 55 66 074, you are most welcome to collect.

Lucy S

aha! finally i catch up properly - am glad the Sauvignon Blanc has found a good home in yr stomach - it certainly seems to be the best way to celebrate spring - and i'd be delighted to see you tomorrow.  am back from modelling in Ealing c 2 pm, probably awake again by 4 ... depending on whether they've let me do a pose i can nap in.  (rare, i don't spend much time reclining).

mungomuffit

Pinot Grigio is great too ... just depends what is on special at Waitrose/Sainsbury's/Asda - as it happened I was in Clapham Junction Asda on Friday and they had some lovely NZ sauvingon blanc at a bargain price. The UK seems to be awash with SB from the Marlborough region of NZ - it's a lovely tipple!

Anyway, back to the point! I'm picking up the oranges tomorrow from Lucy at about 2pm, so will be at yours Ricky just after that. If that's not ok just let me know. Is that ok for you Fiona? Otherwise you can pick up from me.

mungomuffit

oops sorry Lucy (blame it on the SB!) - just re-read your last post and looks like 2pm isn't going to work for you? I can do all day until about 2.30 so just let me know. Sorry to be a pain.

Fiona M

Hi mungomuffitt - ah the temptations of NZ SB!! Completely understand! I succumbed to some yesterday, just lovely. Just thinking, I am free now and could pop to Lucy's to collect for you me and Ricky. Ricky if you PM me your address I will drop off for you. Have just spoken to Lucy and that works for her. Oranges, here we come! MM don't forget to PM me your address and mobile no so I can deliver yours. See you both in a bit.

Denise W

Lucy - You are a star they may be smaller - But really Yummy thqanks so much for making the effort.. I think I am going to keep them for me - and forget OH he can have the sainsburys ones!!! he just doesn't appreciate...

I will certainly take more if there is another run

Cheers

Denise
