Julie - with respect - a thread, once offered to the public, goes where it will and I don't think you have the right to try and control it. Just because you gave birth to it, does not mean it belongs to you.  It would be like trying to impose your own way of life on a child once it has left home.

Thanks Caroline, with respect I agree with supporting comments re the thread I think we should put a knot in it to ensure that there is other matters more important than the Olympics, as we dont have sufficient evidence to prove that all this waste and I point out WASTE, of money is any benefit to working population 90% is fabricated and hidden behind bureaucracy and the truth will probably be released in 10 years time when we could not care less anyway !! So lets please move on and discuss something new and interesting and lets thread a new needle " As a stitch in time saves nine "....... Suggest a war on waste.....!!

i agree it is time to close this.

I've enjoyed hearing and thinking about other opinions regarding the Olympics - I've not really enjoyed the crazy posts about non-Olympic themes. They should be elsewhere - if only so i can ignore them.

Julie - Tried that, but didn't get anywhere.

The OP is right to ask that the thread remain on topic.  Come on, people.  If you want to debate other stuff that has been triggered by comments here, just start another thread!  Simple!

There's a little child in me who still enjoys the Olympics, one of my childhood memories is watching the 1980 games...

So despite all that is wrong with it, commercialisation, excessive pressure on athletes to win win win, disruption, threat of terrorism, I still can't help but feel excited about it.

Sport is a wonderful, fun thing to do, once you find the right one for you!!!

I know I'm new to thread but I agree with caroline, you can't control what happens to a thread any more than you can control the weather!

'Thread drift' is a well-known internet meme and dates back to the original Usenet days. I find it livens up a discussion that can get dull after a while.

Julie O

Of course I can't control what anyone says on my thread and neither would I want to. I'm not Hitler. But I am allowed to make polite requests.

On a personal note, I would like to thank all those who contributed to this thread as you have collectively earned me the Bronze Hot Topic badge (started a thread that received 100+ comments). Thank you all and to all a good night.

Julie, we already have the debate on homeopathy on this conversation but you didn't seem to like that very much either.

All of which oddly enough made me think of a previous thread where the original poster didn't much like the way things turned out: this one.

Come to think of it it's pretty suspicious that Julie O. appears to have joined streetlife almost exactly at the same time that Storm left, and that you both like homeopathy and cats and both have a habit (which I've never seen anyone else on the site do) of angrily complaining when threads don't go the way you wanted them to).

Are you Storm, Julie?

A Bronze Hot Topic Badge, you say!  (envy, envy...)

Julie O

Interesting detective work, Matthew, but completely wrong. I haven't angrily complained about anything. I've been quite polite with my requests. Since you ask, I'm not Storm. I'm Julie.

Julie O

Thanx Caroline :)

Following a detailed textual analysis of the posts of Storm and Julie, I too am minded to believe that they were penned by one and the same person and that our young sleuth, Matthew, is correct.  I further believe that Storm and Julie are not identical, Storm being a cat and Julie being a person.  But I do believe they reside at the same address.

Julie O

Sorry Caroline but you and Matthew are both wrong. I wouldn't delete my profile just because everyone doesn't agree with me. I also don't post rude comments, as Storm did. But everyone is welcome to believe whatever they choose to believe.

andrew h

keep posting Julie! I'm happy to argue...and without rude comments

Julie O

Er.... Thank you...?

Matthew G

So I thought I should go back through my old streetlife emails to see what I could find.  On 10 Feb I got an email with updates on a thread about foxes.  I've attached a screenshot to this comment.

Only the second of the comments is now visible on the thread, so I assume the first one was hastily deleted.

Thoughts, Julie?

Olympics Minister Hugh Robertson has said he is increasingly confident the 2012 Games will come in under budget. (BBC.co.uk 28.2.2012)

New figures show the £527m contingency budget remains intact.

150 days to go until the start of the Olympics everyone.

Sarah R  I could not find it on BBC so please tell us the games are costing how much?

Matt @ Streetlife

Julie / Storm,

Congratulations on what is I believe the most voted on poll we've had on the site, and for starting an interesting (and far-reaching) debate on 2012's biggest event.

However, when you posted your first message you will have seen a short message about streetlife etiquette.  One of the things it says is "don't mislead".

Please adhere to it in future.

Now, back to the Olympics...!

Matt

Here's the link to the web page which was on the BBC's web site yesterday::

Wow. Wish I could edit my comments hours after posting them on here, Matt. I notice that you haven't said a word to or about those launching personal attacks on me on here. That tells me all I need to know. Hencefourth, I shall frequent social networking sites where the moderators do NOT turn a blind eye to bullying. Facebook, here I come. Streetlife - take a long hard look at my profile picture.
