Where can I dispose of my old PC?
Hello :)
I have an old Pc I would like to get rid of. It does not seem to work at all. Does anyone know how I can dispose of it please? Possible with no charge, or a low charge, as I am currently unemployed, and every penny counts!
Thanks peeps and have a lovely day :)

Hi Marsha,
House Elf (www.houseelf.co.uk) is a home concierge company based in Balham and we would be more than happy to take it away for you. For the cost of one Elf for one hour (£15) and the cost of a small car for an hour (£5.75), we can take it away for you and recycle it down at the Wandsworth tip.
Just over £20 for the whole job? How does that sound? We have availability this week, so just give us a call on 020 8265 8705 to complete the booking.

Hi Jake,
Thanks for replying. I'm waiting to see if my house mate wants to dispose of hers too, so we can do it in one go, and I will let you know.
Thanks!!
Don't you just put it in a black bag with the weekly rubbish?
LOL it's too heavy and i don't think it's supposed to go in the black bag.
Wait outside when the binmen come and offer them a fiver to take it away. I bet they say yes.
If you do have a car - do take to the tip near wandsworth Bridge they have a section for Computers and electricals so hopefully they will be re-cycle -
Just remember to take out the Hard Drive and beat it with a hammer - we all store too muc h info on our computers - If you need any help do ask - I have to do this all the time and important that you do it right
Cheers
Denise
Age UK in Mitcham Road Tooting will take old pcs and re-use or recycle them for charity. They are taken by properly accredited recyclers and any data is securely wiped. Check the Age UK website. Much better than daft suggestions like putting them in the black bag and smashing the hard drive with a hammer - even if made tongue in cheek!
Take it to PCWorld. The have a free recycling service for all electricals
Several charities collect for recycling - see web computersforcharities
Please don't put any electronics in the bin!! :)
They contain poisons that leach out & contaminate our earth; it's technically illegal under European law anyway (WEEE Directive) - they have to be responsibly disposed of, or recycled.

Does it work? If it does offer it on freecycle and the person wanting it will collect. If it doesn't work it would be best to check the websites and find the best disposal system.
Great idea! If there is anything else that you and/or your flatmate need to get rid of, just stick it in a pile and we can get rid of it for you. An hour should still be enough time for the PC and some other bits. We will be able to have it recycled responsibly down at the tip:
"Computers
From the Smugglers Way reuse and recycling centre PC equipment is dealt with by SWEEEP Ltd. The plant is powered entirely by renewable energy, and staff break up TV and PC screens by hand, separating out the component materials for recycling into new products"Hope to chat soon.
Jake.
Thanks peeps for all the advise! I will look into it. I would have never put it in the bin Tracey, that is why I have asked for advice :)
Hi Marsha,
Sorry, my comment about not binning the pc wasn't directed at you, but at the person who suggested popping it in a bin bag :)
Are you in the Tooting Broadway area? I have to take an old portable tv and various other electronic bits to the tip soon, so I could pick you up en route.
Hi Tracey, thanks for your comment, I knew it was not directed at me :)
I live on Trinity road, close to Tooting Bec station. Was thinking of putting the PC in a shopping trolley and taking it to the tip, since I don't have a car.
Hi Marsha, I'll message you my details & perhaps we can combine a trip...
Hi Marsha,
I live near tooting bec station and would be happy to recycle your/ and house mates computer for free. Have car and can collect. Let me know if interested.
Thanks,
Luke
Hi all!
Tracey, thanks for your kind offer, read the message too late, but really appreciate your kindness.
Luke, very kind of you too. I live very close to the station too, so I could meet you when is best for you :)
Thanks a lot!
