Thames Water Exposed: Smartmetres alert!
Thames Water has been responsible for major road work disruption over the past few months under the guise of updating pipework and installing metres which purport to identify leaks and water wastage. They are, however, 'designed to maximise revenue collection' as is advertised on the supplier site for these appliances:
http://www.elstermetering.co.uk
The situation first came to my attention when a substantial tract of road was dug up over a 3 week period with the resultant traffic congestion and noise. The council even permitted the contractors to work through the early hours of Sunday and Monday mornings despite complaints. They claimed that Thames Water could not do the work during daylight hours as water supplies to local businesses would be disrupted. Well, my water supply wasn't throughout the entire duration so that cannot have been the case.
I asked the contractors what they were doing and why and got the standard pat answer and when I enquired as to a metre they said it was just to monitor leakage and useage. I pressed for assurance that this was not a 'smartmetre' being installed.
How convenient to rush these through via Thames Water as water shortage stories and hose pipe bans are being circulated. Other traffic disruption (ceaseless) by gas and electric utilities contractors are, no doubt, towards the same end.
Concerns are as follows:-
These smart metres not only identify personal usage per property as distinct but feed data on personal lifestyle and habitual cycles, the gross mass of water usage per population is to be super taxed and passed back to consumers by way of increased bills in addition to or over-riding preferred method of billing currently in place.
This is over-riding personal choice or informed choice.
Thames Water claims that the metres are not for revenue collection. The supplying contractor of these 'smart' metres, being in the business of profit, begs to differ, clearly stating that these metres are for the purpose of 'increasing revenue'.
So why the deception?
WBC have demonstrated their support of these foreign owned multinational utility corporations, disrupting our roads and businesses beyond the boundaries of environmental noise regulations or the requisite planning applications or notifications for these appliances.
These appliances work in a similar manner to wi-fi with serious health concerns and complaints where they have been installed against the knowledge of the people in the USA.
These metres, being remote controlled can locate every power source within your home and switch it off. Water included. There were protective laws in place prohibiting water companies from depriving people of life by cutting off supplies.
There has been a 'smart' technique in evading this law through the covert installation of these metres.
What do they look like? You'd hardly notice they were there. Disguised in dark grey plastic cones against walls, amid foliage where possible with no visible entry points through the casing. But others have managed to see inside at the metre itself.
I think there's a case to be answered here and a cause for concern, having looked into the activities of these corporations abroad and the terrible consequences of manipulated draughts through water management and death from dehydration.
Any suggestions as to what can be done, can be discussed. But I felt it my civic duty as a good neighbour to raise the alert.

Paranoid delusional nonsense. Even the Daily Mail wouldn't print this sort of drivel.
The sad thing is that there may be some validity in concerns about unnecessary disruption through roadworks, and about personally identifiable logged data from a smart meter and what it enables the utility company to infer about you and your lifestyle. But since it then turns into a spectacular Tin Foil Hat Brigade rant of lunacy about remote control and covert installation I can't take a single word of this seriously.
Dear streetlife please can we have a voting button on conversations to indicate that someting is complete and utter bulls##t? Perhaps you could use a little picture of Tim Minchin as an icon ;-)
@DaftAida - My friend knows an engineer and he heard those meters even listen into your wifi connection and feed that back.
How else would I get those flyers through the door about gardening? Not two days after I googled spring plants.
I checked the website DaftAida mentioned and found this -
http://www.elstermetering.co.uk/en/residential_meters.html
V200 / V210 hybridElster combines its latest flow measurement technology with Smart Metering functionality, producing a hybrid solution that enables utilities to focus more effectively on water resource management and consumer engagement.Interesting...
So the best meter on the market has:
So they are more accurate - you pay for what you use, kind of what you expect with a meter. They log water usage patterns. So the water companies know how and when demand is needed - can't see a downside to that, they are the service provider. Also, they have two way radio communications, so they can alert any problems. Thats great as you are liable for leaks on your property - this could save you a fortune.
Sounds like it would do the job nicely...
I am always dumbfounded about water companies in the UK *not* using water meters in general.
But even more dumbstruck about people that believe this to be a good thing.
It does read like a crazy conspiracy theory and although I do find it entirely entertaining, I probably have to side with Matthew on this one! But thanks for the smile you put on my face this morning!
I think the Daily Mail WOULD publish this - it's just their thing (minus the spelling error of the word 'meter').
Hilarious - keep them coming!
Tzcstre: exactly.
Anything to alert the herd to they bleat 'conspiracy tin foil hats' like pavilovian trained sheep!. The one's Orwell portrayed in animal farm. Two legs bad, four legs good brigade.
Mattthew G. Don't bother doing your own work. You don't want to be informed and you don't want others to be informed. Fine, that's your gig, carry on playing it with your buddies. Ever heard of America? No. Not a conspiracy island but a place protesting about these things. Real things that rip people off and destroy their health. But why should you care?
But when this said noticeboard is full to the brim with complaints about soaring water bills with no means of accountability and you and 'your' neighbours are having their water cut off it will be too late, mate.
YOU may be all too happy in your ignorance and attacking anyone attempting to alert people, have a discussion and form a plan of action.
Oh, NO. You just ridicule without reason. Clever, way to go.
WHY NOT ASK YOUR CUDDLY NEW COUNCIL LEADER WHY HE IS ALLOWING OUR ROADS AND TRAFFIC TO BE CONSTANTLY CHURNED UP FOR THE PURPOSE OF NEVER ENDING 'NEW PIPING' AND METRES? All without consultation.
Legilslation protecting people from death and disease which would be caused by water supply companies switching individual homes off. These metres are one way of over-riding this essential and hard fought protective measure.
Depriving people of direct access to clean water (even Thames water) is criminal.
But carry on following silly uncle Matthew's in his nice very big tin foil hat. But don't expect him to pay these soaring carbon tax bills or offer you a glass of HIS water when the sewage hits the fan. They don't need to employ anyone to do their dirty work, the population of Wandsworth sleeps on.
There is no 'conspiracy theorgy' to a frickin' metre OK?
theory.
Agenda 21: United Nations: Agenda for the 21st Century. Flagged up under the luvvy 'Sustainability' tag. It is a directive for radical depopulation. It is not theoretical but legally binding. Most (probaby all) local borough councils now 'Authorities' are bound to execute each stipulation. There is no back out and no negotiation or question of these directives. They are UN orders. Even The Guardian newspaper ran a substantial editorial on the points within this directive.
We, humans are not considered 'sustainable'. Therefore, water, air, food and shelter are to be withdrawn and dealt out as 'privileges' to the psychopathic scumbags who'll eat your grandma for a buck. It will become a 'privilege' to be born and serve The Order. Take 10 minutes now

Others like myself have studied this document and seen it's implimentation.
Why didn't the council that we pay to serve our best interests, inform us that it was not any longer under National Law but beholdent to the directives of New York and it's lackeys ruling other nations? No longer accountable to those paying their fat wages in the borough?
For those who begin and end with a click on wikipedia you'll be no wiser. The answer lies in the question, always,
1. who benefits? 2. what is the harm and to who?
Smartmetres are one (just one) of a collection of measures lauched 10 years ago via Agenda 21 in the 'sustainable' management of resources. 'Human Resources' are rated in the deficit, a minus rating, a useless consumer. Now, how to tackle the problem of 'too many people breathing and eating'? Introduce 'Carbon Taxes' on everything essential to survival ala IMF terms. Those terms mean in this case, that the 'carbon debt' can never be 'repaid'. Gentle words for a brutal policy of depopulation/genocide.
That they are being placed without our knowledge or consent, over riding current legislatory measures of protection, should at least be of some interest to someone on this site apart from moi.

This lengthy document has been explained by many over the past 10 years. Now we or at least some of us out here away from this platform, are seeing how these plans 'to be fully implemented' are coming to pass outside our very front doors.
We have a duty to alert others as others have alerted us. It's called the survial instinct, BTW. Matthew G.
So please stop flogging that tired old dead 'conspiracy theory' horse and go back to burying your head in that bucket.
Information. Not personal attack.
If Thames Water kill all their customers how are they going to make any money?
Duh. Take that one to 'The Mirror' which reflects back to readers the dross they've come to love. 'Water Provider Intends to Kill all Customers' RUBBISH. That's the sort of 'theory' headline so beloved of trash media junkies. Not here thanks.
They'll make tons of extra money through the metres because they know full (and fool) well that the majority of people will just pay up, and up, reducing 'consumption' for essentials like: growing food, washing and washing machines. Water is pricing as the next liquid Gold. Those owning and in control of these unlawful monopolies Think Gobally (UN/NGOs) Act Locally (through local boroughs).
They, like all their fellow monopolists, know the people are too dumbed down from the additives in their air, food and water, to even notice these hidden installations or CARE about them.
Are they right, or are they right?
BTW all you 'neighbourhood loving' folks taking a pop at this information, what do YOU think about all our fountains having been blocked up in the borough?
Why did the council see fit to deprive everyone of access to drinking water?
Did our rates drop as a result of this 'cost saving measure'?
rotfl
Although I've no comment to make on anything that smart meters can do, other than measuring household consumption, I would just say that we chose to have a meter installed for our property a few years ago and was astonished to find how very much lower our water bill became - it more than halved.
Obviously, the fact that our children no longer live at home explains why we use much less water than families with younger children, but the move to metering has ensured that we are very much more conscious of using less and wasting less (and are probably not quite so squeaky clean as we were!).
Although there might need to be some extra benefit given to low-income large families (a lower rate perhaps?), elderly people living alone would be likely to be much better off, and it must make for fairness, good sense and overall huge water savings that everyone should have their water usage metered.
Yes water meters are a good thing. Our Police force is rapidly being revealed as a bad thing. Mathew G. There is no difference between 'Conspiracy' and normal everyday business except the matter of it's lawfulness.
Has any one considered why water meters are being installed?? maybe you think its better as you only pay what you use... well consider this..IF another major utility was created similar to Gas, Water & Electricity.. it would be worth Billions...so what you do is you get as many people as possible on a water meter and charge them accordingly..every one happy..UNTIL they divide water supplied and foul water away (sewage) of which you will pay for via the new utility created. plus service charges.and VAT..still think its a good idea?..
Water supply and sewerage are already charged separately (though usually by the same company). But if you don't use the mains sewers then you don't get charged for them.
So yes, I still think this is a good idea.
The whole privatization thing is a right wing tory scam !! Goverment is managing our affairs to the betterment of all. A GOVERMENT which cannot or refuses to run a monopoly public utility cartel like water energy transport post cannot claim to be able to manage the affairs of GB PLC
Labour had 13 years in charge when they could have re-nationalised the utilities...
The point being when you have ENOUGH households on meters you then divide the water utility into two, one to supply and the other to remove...
Martyn P. I agree Labour could have done but Tony Blair et al were not representative of the Labour Movement They were not left wing and the labour party today is not left wing either! That Cabal which called itself New Labour was a sell out. It did away with Clause 4. It carried on selling off the commonwealth of this country. Water; look at the enormous asset stripping which followed privatisation, Social housing look at the housing crisis we face . It did away with rent control and brought in Housing Benefit and Buy to Let. It began the break up and privatisation of the NHS. It followed the USA into its vindictive and destructive wars. All Neocon Right wing policies. No there has not been a left wing goverment in this country for many years. Not surprising given the entrenched reactionary force of the city and in the media and the completely jerimanderd and undemocratic electoral process.and the amount of secret corporate lobbying that is tolerated blah blah . I know this is not a fashionable view but when all of our commonwealth is in private hands I believe it will become 'fashionable' again. I should say I have been a boss and a landlord most of my life
Nicholas G - I'm going to quote your, "There is no difference between 'Conspiracy' and normal everyday business except the matter of it's lawfulness".
Sarah I am flattered are you making a point about my more recent post? Or are you going to apply it to a different thread?
There is a simple rule of thumb: if you have more bedrooms than people u r better off on a water meter. Everyone needs to use less water and stopping leaks is a priority, so if these make it easier to do that they should be welcomed. And alerting to wastage is high on the agenda - it works on elec and gas perfectly well - without meters everything would be left on by many people.
We have a meter and nothing untoward so far...
@Nicholas G - Answer: I just like the simplicity of: "There is no difference between 'Conspiracy' and normal everyday business except the matter of its lawfulness".
Your views are not so unfashionable. From time to time the Lawrence family, the family of murdered Private Investigator Daniel Morgan, the Guardian's Nick Davies, John Ashton et al must all have been made to feel that their views were paranoid and delusional. The "power elite" are very good at denial, pointing the finger at doubters, branding them just 'conspiracy theorists' all the time bending and breaking the rules. Dr. Fox and Werrity - what political causes were they really advancing and on whose behalf? It is very hard to get formal acceptance of error. It needs constant pressure, clear articulation, relentless exposure. Justice depends on it. George Bernard Shaw famously said that, while reasonable people adapt themselves to the world, unreasonable people try to adapt the world to themselves. All progress, he concluded, depends on unreasonable people.
While I am in favour of metering water usage, is it entirely a good thing? I don't know, but good on DaftAida for being one among the 'unreasonable' raising the issue of 'smart' metering. It was news to me until I read this thread.
