Who would welcome a pop-up restaurant in the Tooting/Balham area by Shelina, winner of BBC's MasterChef? Any ideas for a good site? And what type of food should it feature?
How good would that be?? Frankly, anything cooked by this impressive lady is bound to be amazing. Don't know about sites though - went to dine last Saturday in a pop-up in Tooting Market but it was very cold in there...........
What about the pop up cafe called 'Construction Cafe' featuring art installations in Tooting Bec towards Tooting Broadway, just before The King's Head?
I believe its a 3 month project so that space may be up for grabs in a month or so.
That'd be fantastic ... I'd love that ... I thought her food looked incredible and how lovely if she could have a 'pop-up' restaurant in Tooting. I can't think of any venues - but as I go about Tooting I'll definitely be looking for options and will come back on here & let you know if I get any bright ideas.
I saw Shelina coming out of the Halfway House in Earlsfield the other day.....what about a pop up in Wimbledon Park during Wimbledon and the Olympics!!!
please Shelina talk to the Tooting Town centre business manager Audrey at the Hub she may be bakle to sort you a venue as Tooting really needs this calibre of coooking and imput xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
my 10 year dual heritage old god daughter thinks you are fab ansd is cooking up 3 courses with you as a role model
Thanks all for your encouraging comments. We definitely want something to be local and community focused. I'll look in to the Construction Cafe and Audrey at the Hub is a good call... keep the good ideas coming...
Ah yes please. Loved by the whole family (especially our 4 year old!). Hall of Mirrors at Tooting Gala. Amazing place, which I cannot believe is hardly ever used. We enquired about hiring it for a party and were told its not used. How about that?
I agree with Concetta, the Hall of Mirrors would make an incredible dining room. I'm not sure if you would be able to block out the sound from the bingo caller though. And to be fair it is bingo that has kept this beautiful building alive.
You should also try St Luke's Church off Thurleigh Road. There is a wonderful hall area, perfect for a sit down, they have tables and chairs you have to provide china, cutlery, flowers etc etc. The kitchen is up to catering standard and lovely to work in even though it is compact. Well worth looking into for now and the future. Good luck, cant wait to sample some of your wonderful cooking - have taken your recipes out of the paper this w/e, cant wait to try the mango pud!!!
Any idea who has bought the Bar too Far - maybe they would consider it? Or perhaps a school - they have all the equipment and china and cutlery - possibly a secondary school as the tables and chairs will be larger than a primary! Guest sessions at a pub that doesn't do or isn't known for its food? Good luck, look forward to hearing more.
nlw - what is your connection with Shelina? Just curious! I hope she does do something local - the Mauritian influenced food that she cooked on Masterchef would be amazing and original. I can see her being the next Thomasina Miers with her Wahaca restaurant, which I love.

I'd love that too - her food looks amazing and really different to all the food we can already eat locally.
