To the lovely people that stole my window boxes last night .....

I hope you will end up burning in hell you scumbags!!!

I am SO cross - someone stole my Bay plant and my window boxes last night.  Total value maximum £40 ??  It has taken me 6 years to grow that Bay plant at the right height.

On a more serious note does anyone know if there is a way to stop this happening again?  I can chain the Bay plant box but not sure I can chain the window boxes ?

Any advice would be appreciated - I happen to quite like having some plants in my front yard !

Could I ask that anyone who has lost plants, plant pots etc in this area have a look ot the Wandsworth Police facebook site. (If you don't have Facebook let me know and i'll give you the number-name of the Policemant following this up).

It seems the Police are putting together a case agaist the guy arrested however without owners for the plants found in the van they might not be able to prove they are stolen. This is a pretty good example of the problems that can arise bertween arrest and court conviction. I refered to this in earlier posts.

Andrew, if you have a sec you might post suggestion on nappyvalleynet too. Otherwise, let me know and I'll do it.

Glad if you would - I'm not on nv

We've arrested another male last night on suspicion of "theft of plant pots" last night in the #WandsworthCommon / #Northcote area.

Thanks for the good news and we all hope that there will be enough evidence to convict!  Although it may seem like a minor crime, it is all part of a 'zero tolerance' policy where if minor crimes are prevented then there is a greater sense of respect for law and order and overall crime rates fall.  Well done to the police for paying attention to this crime which seems to be spreading.

Very well said JohnT. I'm sure we all agree.

We will have more details on the Bay Trees investigation soon. Hopefully next week. Watch this space. #BayTrees

Somebody just posted on nappyvalleynet that they got a tweet from Wandsworth police (!!!) that they had found a truck full of bay trees and are calling for owners to contact them.

Jean Ginactive

Which is exactly what the tweet above says

Matthew G

Which tweet above?  Nothing previously posted tells me that

  • a truck full of bay trees has been recovered
  • the police are asking for owners to contact them
  • this message comes from Wandsworth police.

Jean your most recent copied tweet doesn't really say anything useful at all - certainly none of the above points.

Jean Ginactive

Did you click on Bay trees?

mungomuffit

oh sorry Jean - as you can tell, I'm a bit of a Luddite and haven't got much of a clue about how tweeting works. (embarrassed face)

Well, at least we don't have to worry about watering the #BayTrees that are in the yard here at #Battersea Police Station.

John T

looks like they're also stealing box bushes as well as bay trees.  i better hide my box bushes in my front garden.  thanks for the posting jean g.  by the way i hope someone has planted the bare root bushes to keep them from drying out.

BDB they'd never be reading this. Sorry about your loss; a labour of love. How cheap of them.

In today's Daily Telegraph there is an article entitled "The potted plant identity parade" (p.13)saying the Met Police are trying to trace the rightful owners of bay trees and pot plants stolen in the Wandsworth area, picked up in a van full of stolen shrubs - this may be old news, I have not read every contribution to this long-running chain but it does say there is a photo gallery on Scotland Yard's page on flickr and if you think they might be yours to contact Wandsworth Borough Police. I expect this is the site referred to above

Could these tales have a happy ending?

Maryam

Read my latest post- police have seized a large number of plants, trees etc. stolen from Wandsworth.. photos of them can be viewed on Met Police website.

andrew h

Maryam - why not have a little read of the thread. The police have had photos of these plants displayed for approx one month.
This is a great example of how the news works - telly and big newspapers copy things from each other and lead you to believe this is a new story whereas it is an old (yet interesting) local story.
Has anybody on here knowledge of what has happened why they went to identify plants?
