Best Local Eateries

Dear Streetlife Lovelies,

We are aware of many fantastic local eateries (delis, restaurants etc..) in surrounding areas, so would like to create a positive chat to identify the best local eateries.

If you've had a fantastic meal, or excellent experience locally... please name-drop the establishment and why.

with Amore...

Where do I start?!  I cannot remember having a bad meal out anywhere locally.  Favourites include: Locale in Munster Road - particularly good Italian and half price steaks on a Monday night , Cote on Parsons Green Lane - consistently good food at a very good price and Bloom on Fulham Palace Road - great breakfasts!  Tea and cakes at Bishops Palace can't be beaten - especially if it's a dry day and one can sit outside on the lawn - great if you have children who would rather be running around than sitting still in a cafe!

We experienced Union Bistro on Abbeville Road on Saturday and had theeeeeeeee most fantastic meal.  We ordered a selection of starters, spiced crab on little gem, succulent thick slices on ham with homemade piccali, unpotted shrimps with fennel, radish etc and, finally, duck 'ham' again with a homemade chutney all served with divine bread with apple baked inside and really creamy butter, washed down with a wonderful cider.  Cant wait to go back - Adam Byant has done it again!!

I must also mention Bueona Serra on the Northcote - have been there quite a bit recently and the food is always faultless, the service can be a little overpowering and timing is of the essence if you want to chat with friends eg Sat lunchtime is hopeless, they are packed out (which is gt for them) and it is full of children so the noise level is off the rickter scale!!

One more - Soif on Battersea Rise.  Again a fantastic menu, we tend to go for a selection of starters, their terrine, which is served to you in a huge terrine from which you just tuck in before it is taken off the table for the next lucky customer is a dream.

I've had a couple of really good meals at the Harwood Arms (27 Walham Grove) in Fulham recently.  Their specials are particularly unusual - often with a gamey theme.  The service is friendly and relaxed, interesting wine list too. Only downside is that it's difficult to get a table, usually have to book at least a week in advance.  But it's worth it!

Lamberts is rated as one of the best restaurants in London and is always a cut above; Abbeville Kitchen is also good -- from the same stable as the Canton Arms at Vauxhall etc. Also in Balham, Trinity, for lunch and De Lys for the cakes. Chez Bruce, of course, but it's not cheap. Gurkha Diner on Balham High Road.

For great food at truly excellent prices try Fish In A Tie on Falcon Road....it's been there years and will hopefully remain for many years to come.

Fish in a Tie is great, particularly for lunch - evenings you must book.  A great favourite is the

Antipasta restaurant in Battersea Park Road - great value on half price days - has also been there

for 25 or so years.

We went to La QuecumBar on Battersea High Street last night for the first time. We will definitely be back again.  Delicious food, house wine, great venue and the live music was fantastic. We are also great fans of Antipasta.

Gazette is delicious and a real treat, it's located near to the river, they have one in Balham as well.

Maybe it's just me but I've noticed a bit of a drop-off in service at Tartine (Tooting). Food's still good but the wrong dishes/drinks come out, it can be slow and generally a bit disappointing. Hopefully they'll raise their game with some competition down the road - unless Tota's going more for the evening trade.

Hi Ben, TOTA will be open from 8am to 11pm 7 days a week- )as long as you guys support us!!)

We will be offering quality coffee and breakfast fayre, as well as top notch sandwiches( Salt beef on rye, sticky honey chicken with avocado and bacon on foccacia) lovely salads and healthy options as well as firm favorites.

In the evening the food will be a brasserie/bistro style, with a casual dining atmosphere. We have a great wine list from Revelstoke Wines in Wimbledon as well as craft ales ( Meantime in Greenwich)

Check out our website SHORTLY where we shall have more information, menus prices and lots more exciting information!

I'm so excited about Tota, I walk past every day on my way to & from work, each time thinking "I can't wait for tota to open!". Please do a good brunch, brilliant coffee & an interesting range of herbal teas (teapigs are divine) & I'll be your best most loyal fan :-)

victoria c

Thanks for your comments Julia. We are getting there slowly, its all about the lease and solicitors talking to solicitors that is taking the time. I promise you we aim to provide the BEST coffee, great food in a fab atmosphere with friendly smiley service.

Love Teapigs as well and we hope to give the "peeps" of Tooting  what they want.

Hi AA, have you tried Saravanaa Bhavan, in tooting high street? If you are vegetarian you would love their food. Fast and friendly staff, freshly made south Indian food and fresh fruit juices! They do "eat as much as you want" their dishes are varieties of veggies and yummy!

Metro Gusto on Battersea Park Road - between the Dogs & Cats home and the Train Station. Fantastic Italian food - great wine list and outstanding service.

Had a lovely lunch in Kitchen Table on Franciscan Road today.  Delicious large lamb kofta wrap with bean and rocket salad and a gorgeous spiced yoghurt and cucumber salsa.  Lovely Fentimans Sicilian lemonade and a very fine cafe mocha.  All for £8.50.

Friendly service - well worth a visit.

Bugatti in Wandsworth. Very much undiscovered, as it's always quiet in the evenings but very busy during luch hours when they do a special offer on their pasta and pizza dishes but the food is excellent. I especially liked the Rissoto Con Gamberoni (Prawn Rissoto) for main and the Calamari Fritti (Fried Squid) for starter. All their rissotos are nice as well as their pastas. I really don't understand why it's not busier than it is in the evenings but I guess it might be the location.
