I found the Wandsworth.gov website to be a mine of information.  Well laid out with little techno talk.  Not very comprehensive but it gives the areas, dates etc., to be avoided.

I was more interested in the ORN lanes - the bus stops closed, the pedestrian crossings closed, the no right turns across the ORN lanes and the lights under local control.  York Road isn't that wide - there is always a problem going towards Wandsworth Bridge because of the lane restrictions .. there are only three lanes - one for the buses .. two for traffic.  Take one away to be used for the ORN traffic and the whole area must just as well be closed to anyone except the users of that lane.

TfL will be as biased as the Council and only giving you the 'hype' of the actual events, not the actual daily disruptions.

No right turn across ORN lanes?? Are they joking?? Does anyone know what the fine for "disobeying" this might be??

I am sorely tempted to test this out and let them take me to court - it's utterly outrageous.......

Sarah B - £130.  Only emergency vehicles will be 'safe' -  but not all from what I understand.  Blood vans, 'spare parts' carriers etc., will have to abide by the ORN ruling - only emergency vehicles with lights and sirens will be able to use the lanes - cross over to the right - but I could be wrong on this.  I was too busy trying to work out the logistics for where I live.

From what I understand (and I could be totally wrong in my understanding) there will be no pedestrian crossings in operation - only the ones at the traffic lights which will be under local control.  I am trying to find out which bus stops are being suspended because if one of them is by christchurch gardens I will be stuck in for the duration.

The buses from Wandsworth Bridge to the Junction .. if they are no longer able to turn right and proceed up Plough Road, will that part of Battersea be totally cut off from public transport?

Too many questions to find answers for

Hi vivian - thanx very much for coming back with all this info....... This is much worse than I thought it would be - how come blood vans are classed as "non-urgent"?? My mother desperately needed blood after something went wrong after her op and blood was crucial to her recovery....
Vivian B
I have been batting on about this for months  - slapped down most of the time ... taken on face value it is minimal disruption - but depends on whether you are affected or not.  For instance .. to cross the road - say - in Battersea Park Road by the co-op funeral place, you will either have to walk to Battersea High Street or along to the Latchmere... fine if you are able bodied.  If you live in Plough Road and depend on the buses .. what ya gonna do for the duration?

The hospitals have been kept bang up to date with the hype .. but just by the nature of the business, they cannot work flexible hours from home.  Sorry your nurse can't change your dressings, she is working from home?  Wages unpaid?  Sorry bank operating flexible hours and can't access your account for the moment.

I am pleased for the folk who it won't affect, but I do think everyone should be reading up on bus routes etc., all around London... and I do wish they would be exact in their agenda for the smooth running of London.  From what I can work out, Wandsworth Roundabout and Vauxhall will be the two places you will have to travel to if you want to turn right at any point so you can come back on yourself and make a left turn.

I might be totally wrong in my reading of it all .. hope I am.
Sarah B
Thanx for this vivian - do you know how they will actually be enforcing this???
Vivian B
Road markings etc., begin July 1 from what I have read... I don't know if the new R&R's will come into force until the Olympics begin.  I am getting most of the information from the place my daughter works as it is regularly sent the 'hype'.  I don't know where I put the link but go to the Wandsworth website and the olympics bit which might give more on dates etc now it is getting closer.

Think it was my ISP playing 'reboot your router' time.  It will connect on some machines but not on others when the mood takes it ... nightmare.

Yes - I read it ..

I thought these were meant to be "Green games", so shouldn't all these athletes, officials, journalists and key Olympic partners be travelling by public transport?

Aidan, great comment,
imagine an athlete traveling to East London by bus and getting stuck in traffic or not being able to attend due to some industrial action?
Aidan
Traveling to East London - I don't think so!
Have a look at the site http://www.london2012.com/venue/olympic-village/ - "The Olympic Village is located in the Olympic Park, within walking distance of the venues – enhancing the experience of athletes and officials who will stay there during the Games."
The athletes are all staying in the Olympic Park - about 5 minutes walk from the venues. These routes are primarily for the journalists and key Olympic partners (i.e. CocaCola, BT etc) to reward them for sponsering and covering the games.

Green games my foot. Westfield Stratford has parking for thousands of cars and has closed already "in preparation for the games". It has been taken over by LOCOG and they have parked the Olympic liveried BMW's inside. No parking for push bikes. Everyone has to travel in by public transport. How will it cope.
