School holidays - burglaries

Hi all,

I live just by Tooting Bec - our house was burgled last July (and the July before  -school hols) by smashing the front living room window in broad daylight.

Last year, on reporting the crime, the police handily informed us that there had been several burglaries that week, all houses with hedges at the front.  Obviously it would have been ideal for the police to let us know this before we were targeted!

So I wanted to flag on here...if you have a hedge at the front of your property - cut it back so pesky burglers can't be concealed and hopefully you won't have any problems.

Great idea Susie.

We were burgled 2 years ago, we had a high hedge, they were concealed while they kicked the front door in.  We have now made the hedge much shorter and have had an iron gate fitted from the ground to the porchway to the top of the porchway, with no gaps, I don't think they will be getting in here by the front door any more!  Yes, it cost us quite a lot of money, but for the peace of mind it was worth it's weight in gold!!  We also had our side entrance done at the same time. Another good tip is to have windows reinforced with a shatter proof material, it's applied to the existing glass, this way they will have a hell of a job getting in because the window will only shatter, not break!!
Another good tip is to fix a dummy alarm box up at the front and possibly the back also, burglars apparently go on to a property without these.
