New Indian restaurant on Old York Road

Guys, if you do one thing this week or month, you have to try the new Indian restaurant.  It opened last night and we decided to give it a try.  Their food is so delicious and it has that Michelin star quality about it. The service was wonderful as well, incredibly friendly staff.  Before the food came I was already hoping that it would be amazing because they were so lovely, but it definitely outdid my expectations.  I can't remember the name of the chicken starter we had, but it literally blew my mind.  I was never a massive fan of Indian food, not that I disliked it, I do like it, just other dishes I prefer, but I have to say I have definitely changed my mind.

Hopefully this restaurant can break the curse of that premises as its had a number of restaurants  that have failed.

I to went there last night as you rightly say the owner and staff are very friendly and humble people, I did try a lot of food in there and I have to say it is not second to any indian I have ever had .
You must try their dip its mint and coriander very refreshing ,amazing I wish them luck and I know they will succeed . 10 out of ten.

It's called Amirah's Kitchen. 356 Old York Road, SW18 1SS. Mary and I went there Thursday night (21/06/12). As Dianne says the food was delicious; flavours very fresh and vibrant. I particularly liked the starter of Bengali fish fried in a gram flour batter with that coriander and mint dip. The service was friendly but a little erratic however it was only their third day of operation. They have a good wine list. A decent Indian is a welcome addition to OYR. The Chinese takeaway won't be missed but I was disappointed when the Japanese restaurant folded. Finger crossed that AK succeed and, on the quality of the food, they should.

it might seem like a modest english exterior but inside your dazzled with the chic, splash of vintage seating, with images reminding customers where they get their food menue inspiration (india). a very unique seating, decor is a wow factor then your "wowed" again by the hospitality of the staff. to simplify it i felt like a king. ahhh ! and the food !! omg !! good portion, good taste, good spice !! omg !! amirah's kitchen is a great addition to london a defiantly upcoming fine dining, highly recommend it no matter how much i talk about it, it wont do it justice till you experience amirahs kitchen. i think i know where am gonna be spending saturday evenings from now on.

I went yesterday with some girlfriends and the food was lovely and our waitress was helpful and geniunely keen for us to enjoy ourselves. Even my friend who doesn't like Indian enjoyed it. I can recommend the non alcholic mojito if your driving- it was delicious.

Oh dear, I am dreadfully disappointed.  Reading these wonderful reviews I had been so much looking forward to trying Amirah's kitchen and twisted my dining companion's arm pretty severely to get him in there.  However, we were greeted in a somewhat surly fashion (although the place was empty), the service was incredibly slow and some of the food we ordered was well below standard: flabby, undercooked pakoras, overcooked scallops, and a "salmon tikka" cooked to a brick with a nasty salt crust which wiped out any fish or spice flavour.  A prawn curry was good and a paratha very good indeed, but there were no chapatis.  I wish them well but would think twice before visiting again.  It's certainly no competition with The Chutney in Alma Road or The Curry Leaf in St John's Hill where the food standards are much higher and the service a lot slicker.  Sorry folks - I gave it a couple of days before writing this as I hate to be negative.  Maybe it was an off night?
Woodrow Parquet
Oh dear not very positive they will be very disappointed
Jenny P
Yes - and I'm sorry about that.  Unfortunately we were not asked whether everything was OK at any point in the meal or I would have made my criticisms on the spot - very politely and tactfully, of course.  As I said above, maybe it was an off night and we were unlucky.

Dear Jenny,
Hope you are well and are enjoying the olympic celebrations in London. As Mr Parquet commented earlier we are deeply disappointed with your experience, for which we can only apologise. Especially as the local community in Tonsley has been soo supportive of us. We will be looking into this incident to ensure that it does not happen again. If you wish to discuss this in person with me, I am more than happy to have an offline discussion with you as our aim is to provide high quality dishes and an exemplary service. Best wishes,
Amirah's Kitchen
