Yoga in Wandsworth?

Can anyone recommend a yoga studio/practice/person whichever in Wandsworth? I don't want a gym i.e. Esporta or Virgin, ideally I am looking for somewhere very close to Wandsworth Town, preferably walking distance.  Saying that, I have never done Yoga before so ideally a beginner's class would be what I'm after.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Have you looked into Anoushka's yoga behind the church in Earlsfield on Garratt Lane? I have tried a couple of classes there, both intermediate, but I'm sure the beginners would be in a similar vein. Quite slow-paced i.e. focusses on relaxation rather than the jumpy-around type. You could probably do a trial class for free.

Ooh that's actually not too far. I might try that. Thanks so much for the suggestion.

You could also try the Sivananda centre in Felsham Road, Putney. You could have your first class free there.

Thanks Kate so much for this.

Hi Dianne,

I am starting a new course for beginners the week of 8th July. It's a very comprehensive course that starts right from the beginning taking you safely through Sivananda Yoga and Vinyasa flow (a more flowing 3d style of yoga that's creative, rather than the same sequence of poses like Sivananda). For more info please visit www.anoushkasyoga.com.

Beth, thanks for the recommendation. I just saw this. Each week we do something different so not always slow paced. This week was headstand and advanced back bends for example with lots of jumping. Just in case anyone reads this post and expects all relaxation! But I always encourage people to go at their own level. We work up to the advanced practices by the end of a course.

We have the space at Eat Play Love - 324 Battersea Park Road. Any Yoga instructors want to get in touch about using our 40m2 room?

@Biscuit I've just seen your post, I don't suppose u have or are looking to have any Zumba classes at the cafe as I would be more than interested in this?

Biscuit - Tai Chi classes are at a premium in the area.  ;-)

It's just walkable from Wandsworth - have you been to the Satyananda Yoga Centre in Thurleigh Road which runs down to Wandsworth Common ?  There are classes for all levels, every week day at varying times.   If you want a work out, then don't bother as the teaching style is more meditative, very into breath and body awareness.  Look at the website for class times and more info.   www.syclondon.com

Hi Kripa

This is exactly what I'm looking for, more of the meditative rather than the co-ordination and work out.

Thank you all for you wonderful suggestions.

Do try Anoushkasyoga- they make you think as well as do and you'll feel lovely afterwards. Easy to get to (several buses if you feel lazy) and definitely NOT like the Virgin gym beginners classes, where every class is the same and there isn't any real teaching.

Would you be interested in coming over to Fulham www.telondom.com
