I have seen them the past two days.. hovering over the tooting Furzedown area, I did think it a little wierd being two consecutive days. Sorry no idea as to why!
I made the assumption it was the police watching /chasing a criminal trying to hide. Perhaps its Wandsworth council's new deterrant against people dumping waste on the streets, Simon? Not. Anyway was very annoying when enjoying the little sun we have had and trying to converse outside.
morning, it's usually the police- especially at night. I've just started following @MPSinthesky on twitter which is the police helicopter and it tells you (mostly) where and what the police helicopter is up to. For some reason the noise is irritating me less at night now that I know what it's up to and that they're chasing down the bad guys :)
There are many during the day which follow the line of Wimbledon Park Road towards Battersea Heliport and I can see from out loft window that they are private/corporate, probably moving Olypic ViPs around. I expect that they will disappear after the games or hope they do!
Battersea is the heliport but I see them heading from Battersea over St Georges in that direction. They seem in transit somewhere South West. (OK they return to Battersea later)
The old bill is different - cameras etc and hovering.
Interesting site from CH. I'll check that out.
Glad I'm not the only one to have noticed more activity.
The one hovering over Furzedown the other day was a police helicopter - I could see it from my window - seems they were searching for someone in a fairly narrow circle - hope they caught him/her/them!
Glad to know they caught someone Jean G! We've noticed more helicopters recently too (Balham). Not hovering around but heading to Battersea Heliport. We just assumed it was some fatcat being flown back to London from their villa in France.
In a few days time planes and helicopters will no longer be able to fly over central London until after the Olympics. Perhaps the companies who fly small planes and, in particular, helicopters have got together with their regular customers and reorganised their business travel to maximise the use of travel time just before the ban comes into place. Some weeks ago my family tried to book a helicopter pleasure flight over London for my eightieth birthday during JUne or July. However, they fell foul of the ban and of heavy booking earlier so now I will have to wait until the Autumn.
Air space restrictions over central London do not start till 14 July and therefore Wimbledon tennis not effected. So Rick,y your celebratory flight should be OK for before 14 July?
Sylvia, thank you for your comment. Unfortunately it won't happen because, some weeks ago, my family were unable to book a flight. It seemed that the bookings right up to the olympics had already been filled. But not to worry, I have been waiting sixty years for the chance to fly in a helicopter so a few more weeks won't make a difference (I hope!)
They Should definately have the same law for Helicoptors as they do for aircraft. They should be banned from flying over London between 10.00pm and 8.00am as there's absolutely no point in night flying as there's a lot less traffic at these times, hence; less congestion.

Could be Wimbledon or Olympics...
Never had them over the house before, in Earlsfield, bit annoying so hope it is sport related and over when the fat lady sings.
At first thought there was multiple breakouts from HMP Wandsworth!
