I can't recommend a specific solicitor but I know that you can use the Law Society's find a solicitor service on their website. If you need a solicitor for conveyancing it might also be useful to keep an eye out to look for one with the Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) accreditation, which is meant to guarantee high quality service.
Greville Hast at Alen Buckley on Bellevue Road, SW17 was excellent when we sold our house. Very reasonable fees. We tried to use him when we purchased our new house but the vendors had already instructed him! Used a solicitor in Chelsea recommended by Savills that was nowhere near as good and 3 times as expensive. Grrr.
Frances Collis at Collis & Co in Tooting High Street is excellent. We've used her for 3 purchases, and she is fair and supportive, knowledgeable, and will go the extra mile for her clients. People we recommended her to have used her more than once as well ... all happy.
I used Deborah Magnall at WH Matthews in Sutton. Very happy with her work. Had to go to the office once with ID etc but after that communicated by telephone, email and post. Completely different experience from my first purchase where I used the solicitors who were affiliated with the estate agents. She kept in contact regularly and she was very particular on the details.
not local but extremely helpful when I bought my flat which turned out more complicated than anticipated at the outset - Burton Woods in central London. Only time I had to travel in was when contracts where exchanged. Good luck!
