Wandsworth council waste management

I have been critical of the council at times, in this instance I would like to give my appreciation to their prompt service: our rubbish had been left uncollected on Thursday, I waited till yesterday and left a recorded message with the waste dept. giving details. The council answering service said the waste would be collected within the following day, a lo and behold  this morning when I home I saw that the bags had been taken.

My thanks to the waste management office, they kept their word.

Be grateful .. we had to wait 3 weeks to get anything done.

I think I have made that apparent. Sorry about your case, did you call the same office as I did?

I called every number relevant at the Council - I called the estate manager - I collared rubbish collectors who do the bulk clearance - I spoke to our cleaners .. there wasn't anyone I didn't speak to!  I left messages on the answerphone - I left messages via the website.  3 weeks.  and the overspill was left on the floor by the disgruntled operatives.  The chap from the contractors actually admitted the place looked like a war zone with more mess.  But it got done in the end .. it is a shame it was through the hottest period we have had this year.

Fly-tipping is collected very quickly and I have also used this if the road has not been swept or there has been a 'spill' by the collection team.

The response has so far been swift.

the number I called was 0208 871 8558. I left a message as directed and to tell you the truth I was apprehensive as to whether anyone would listen to the message in a short time. They certainly did and I am indeed grateful.

I've used www.Fixmystreet.com a few times to report dumped litter (including a large portion of a chopped down tree!) - they coordinate with the council & things get done pretty quickly that way too - no idea if its faster than going to the council direct, but the point is, things do happen.

My collection day is still Monday and yet since the new contract started my rubbish has not been collected twice. The last time, despite calling every day my rubbish was not collected until Saturday, so I had almost 2 weeks of smelly bags sitting on my path! Not impressed so far!!

My day was changed to Friday and it has been OK up until last week. Returned from a long weekend last night to find nothing had been collected so have left a recorded message reporting it..............will now wait and see! Hope it works as well as it did for you emmsar!

I have to say the previous contractor had a great reputation for clearing inconsiderate dumps within 24 hours but I find this one will not do special pick ups for days.

Great result! 2 guys with a van collected my "missed" rubbish and recycling at 6.30am this morning. Reassuring to know that the recorded message system at Wandsworth council does work.

Glad for you Fiona. Sylvia, have you tried the number I've given, they assure clearance within the next day, I called on a Friday and they collected Saturday, which in itself was rather reassuring, I expected to have to wait till Monday.

Perhaps Wandsworth listens to the messages as they are recorded.... not sure, but as I wrote earlier on a different thread, I have had problems adding photos too to show how some of the bin bags were left
slit and strewn on the ground with rubbish falling out. That time no one picked it up, we had to clear up again before it was collected, I must admit that I hadn't called the council that time. So it seemed only fitting to give them credit for having dealt with my problem so quickly and efficiently.

Thanks emmsar. We are all quick to moan when Wandsworth gets it wrong, so I am pleased that they rectified my problem so promptly and agree they deserve the credit.
