Thought more people would have come to house clearance.

Was a little disappointed with the low numbers that showed up for house clearance yesterday. Is it more of a north American tradition.

yup, it is. i miss rummaging through yard sales. what you want is a stall at a car boot sale... sorry you're stuck with your old stuff!

Did you put it on Gumtree too?  Lots of people use this when they're in the UK for a year to furnish their properties cheaply.

If you have items to go for free freecycle them... they'll be gone in a flash.

Yes I put several ads on Gumtree.  It might have to do with timing. (people's pay days)
I will try to post some more things on Gumtree again

Perhaps you're right... pay days!

When I moved and had to 'downsize' possessions, I was inundated with people wanting things (both free and paying) but that was a few years ago!

Good luck

It's definitely much more popular in North America. I think it's a minefield for the British - What if I don't want anything, then it will look rude.....Can I haggle, or does it look rude.

That kind of thing!

I am from Bermuda and going to yard sales and house clearance is a Saturday/Sunday tradition.

totally agree with Andy as well - I think it's all a bit too up close and personal for the average Brit! "Garage sales" are popular in Australia. Most weekends there would be at least a couple within a few blocks from your house and because lots of people go to them it is not so embarrassing if you leave without buying anything.

Talking of boot sales..  Anyone know of any close by? Any takers on the idea of trying to run one on Tooting Common?  Perhaps in the car part by the Lido because that is never as busy as the main one.

There is a car boot every sunday am  in wimbledon stadium car park
