I used Broadway Carpets on Mitcham Road in Tooting for a hall 2x stairs and landings and loft conversion recently. I was very impressed with the fitters and the sales chap. The carpet is a stripe and so needed to be expertly laid on the turns of the stairs etc. It looks great.

I've used Hillside Carpets on Replingham Road in Southfields for quite a few years - I think they've done most of my rooms by now.  Always very good service.

I have used Capital Carpets over the years and they have never failed us - they are now re located on St Johns Hill the old cinema end.

I know this recommendation will seem anything but local, but I can't say enough about Paul Jonas (0208 372 7039). His company is based in North London but will cover this area.
 He, and his team, have just recarpeted my whole house. they were prompt, efficient, clean and very, very reasonable They also left any "extra" bits for the doors and hallway which they cut to size as well. He also was very helpful with suggesting which carpet would be best, which was not the most expensive, and why I should go for what I did choose.

 I love my new carpet and couldn't believe it would make such a difference Please mention that it was me who recommended you as every little bit helps.

excellent shop on east hill run by peter.i think its marlows carpets.ive had good advice and service every time.

Many thanks for all your responses.  I am going to visit some of the shops  recommended to see their samples and get a sense of their advice. 

I will keep you posted as to what I do in the end but it all has to tie in with some decorating as  well all while the lodger is away so  less disruptive.

I second the recommendation for Broadway Carpets. Used the about a month ago for stairs and 2 rooms and couldn't fault either the fitting or the shop (which is a lot better inside than it looks from outside!)

A third for broadway carpets. Over time they have done our whole flat.

Another recommendation for Broadway Carpets.  Did whole house and finished job was super.  Very nice team of fitters.  They helped move furniture etc.

Try Marc Charles Carpets. Great range of products and very experienced fitters! I have a couple of friends who have used them who passed their number to me.
