Fatso's on Salhouse Road is good value, plus if you get a "loyalty card" (free) you can use it for their monthly offers like BOGOF/half price items/kids eat free etc, and has a great atmosphere.

Theres also Castle Carvery in Bowthorpe, which has a "Fun Fort" inside soft play area (have taken my son there many times!) and also a large outside play park, and the carvery is very good value too.

If they'll eat Chinese you could try Lucky Star on Queens Rd. All you can eat lunch/dinner buffet and they certainly used to offer a kids discount - do check first as it's a while since I've been. Good value and selection of dishes and quick service.  Don't expect to be blown away by the location though!

Similar place is Merge at the bottom of Grapes Hill/Dereham Road junction (the old Regal Pub) £7.99 adults 3 or 4.99 kids under 1.5 metres in height at lunchtimes. Lots of choices and a great choice of desserts including a chocolate fountain!! Yummy!!

We've taken our grandchildren to 'Wagamama' near the Chapelfield Centre. The kids certainly enjoyed it and found things they like to eat. I had something difficult to describe but a sort of mixture wirh chicken and veg. Reasonable price. activities for the children. It's worth a try.

Have to agree with the Fatsos comment as getting a loyalty card makes them as cheap as the fast food chains but much better quality.  Also if like me you begrudge paying to park in Norwich to have a meal it is much better to go on the outskirts where parking is free.

The Pig @ Edgefield on the way to Holt from Norwich

Pizza Express at The Forum... particularly if you pick up a Visit Norwich map which has a 2 for 1 voucher inside.

Good shout Jayne E. - I was in there last week and was given some vouchers - £2.50 for a pizza with any other main, valid throughout August except Saturdays I think.

Not the most adventurous but you know what you're going to get and it's a pretty child friendly venue and menu.

A restaurant I like is Malaysian Delights on Timber Hill.  It is above the Castle Gates sports bar and it's an all-you-can eat buffet like the Lucky Star and Riverbank restaurant.  The food is very similar to Chinese, but with a Malaysian twist.  It costs less if you eat there at lunchtime, but the evening is good value too.

We've always loved the Waffle House on St Giles. They have a kids menu, or they could just choose small waffles. The food is really tasty and there's something for all tastes - sweet and savoury. Also, the ingredients are really high quality. The milk shakes are to die for - check out their new black cherry smoothie! Our kids always loved it and still choose it above all other restaurants (our youngest celebrated his 21st there yesterday!).

Captain Americas on Exchange Street opposite Jarrolds - I love their burgers http://www.captain-americas.co.uk/

You could also try Paulo's at the top of Lower Goat Lane near City Hall. They do good pizzas

Or  try Town House On Yarmouth Rd Carveries only £3.99 or cheaper with face book vouchers

The Racecourse - Salhouse Road does a lovely carvery.  And they have a lovely play area for under 10s too - so an added bonus - at no extra cost.

Try the Waffle House - the best milkshakes in town & you have waffles with everything! Bit of a trip to the 1970s but the food is great & it is in the centre of Norwich

Any Weatherspoons pub?  I got 2 meals and 2 drinks for less than £10 today.

Definitely the Town House is very reasonable as it's a Carvery and don't forget to check the vouchercode sites. Here's a link: http://www.vouchercodes.co.uk/search/?q=bella+pasta&x=34&y=25

Another good place to have a carvery is The Oaklands on Yarmouth Road.  It's probably best to book in advance if you're going at a busy time though.

Sakaru Japanese Restaurant in Ber Street - Lovely welcome and beautifully cooked hand made Japanese food.  They even have a table BBQ.  I think that they are producing a kids menu.  My kids loved trying the food and are big converts to vegetables fried in tempura batter.

Just for Pub Food - the Belle Vue on Stafford Street is great - most main courses around £5.95 and if you go between 5.30 and 7.30pm it's early bird prices. Spinach and Mascarpone Lasagne delicious!!
Rice n S
If you like Indian food, then Rice & Spice Indian Takeaway on Earlham Rd is the best. There are Special Offers every Monday to Thursday from £5.95, delivery service within 5 miles. You would also get a £5 discount voucher to use on the next order.

Some places I have been that do really good food around the £10 mark.

The Library - nice atmosphere, really good value set menu, locally sourced

Three Ways Lebaneese - Lebaneese lots of mezze dishes, had the falafel here and it was really good, family run and really friendly.

Franks Bar - lots of locally sourced food and platters, pretty relaxed atmosphere, also do an amazing breakfast.

Best cheap burger in Norwich has to be Captain Americas, nice and simple, I always find Zaks & Fatso are a bit pile it high and throw as much in it as you can.
