Query to the Council about the new refuse collection - street cleansing timetable
Is anyone else having this problem?
The refuse collection itself seems to be going fine where I live (now that people have cottoned on to the new collection day), but I don't understand why the Council can't schedule our main street cleansing days to happen as soon as possible after the refuse collections. The rubbish trucks tend to leave a fair bit of stuff behind - much more than the passing school kid chucking their crisp packet into the gutter on their way home. Our rubbish collection is Friday and our street cleanse is Wednesday, so for 2 days the street looks quite nice. The other 5 days it can look like a tip.
I've been cleaning up my bit of the road, which I'm happy to do as needs must, but I don't want to do it on a weekly basis, 52 weeks per year. I draw the line at cleaning up squashed soiled nappies and spilt take away boxes (left by the rubbish trucks last Friday).
Can the Council please respond to this query and let us know if it can re-schedule the main street cleansing days to follow rubbish collection days as soon as possible? If not, why?
(at least it's better than the other Balham street I used to live on, where the our main street cleanse was always about 20 minutes before the rubbish trucks came through ...)

Many thanks!

You can search at http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/site/custom_scripts/street_clean.php for the days.
I don't know which roads you are complaining about, but obviously it's a different matter if the street isn't scheduled for a clean to it having a clean on bin day, but it's happening too early or isn't thorough enough.
In addition, they receive a thorough sweep of the whole area on Wednesday and a further litter clearance on Monday.
The council does carry out regular checks to ensure that cleansing is undertaken in accordance with the contract schedules – however, if residents believe this is not the case they should report the problem to waste management services by calling 020 8871 8558 or emailing wasteservices@wandsworth.gov.uk.
