Enjoy walking? - Special treat on Friday!

Hullo everyone,

London's first and finest long distance footpath network is the 'Green Chain Walk'. It begins at Crystal Palace and passes through the finest landscape and woodland in the Capital on its way to the Thames at Erith.

On Friday you're welcome to a free guided tour of it at NIGHT. It's an extraordinary experience.

Meet outside Crystal Palace railway station at 22.30. It's 21 miles, but don't let that put you off, the landscape is so good that those tired feet will want to keep going.

After the first five miles we enter woodland for a pitch black stroll. Quite amazing! By the time we get to Eltham we'll see wonderful views across the whole of London at first-light - so good last year that we spent about 20 minutes watching. At 05.00, after much more dark woodland we arrive at Shooters Hill for sunrise, and there's no where better to see it as the view extends right over Essex and the estuary. The rest of the walk is almost entirely in woodland and I assure you, it does look lovely at that time of the morning. We arrive at Erith and the Thames at about 07.30 for plenty of trains home. Two excellent cafés have been identified in the London Bridge/Waterloo area for those who want to finish themselves off with a hearty breakfast. :-)  .

You should bring a torch and any supplies you might need. Note that drinking alcohol before or during this walk is a very bad idea - I speak from experience!

This walk is just for fun and is not supported by any public body. Anyone who partakes does so entirely at their own risk.

I look forward to meeting you at Crystal Palace station on 20th July at 22.30. Feel very free to PM or e-mail me for more details.

All the best

For those attending this excellent if eccentric walk, the weather is looking good! Rain ended by 22.00 and the possibility of clear skies by sunrise. I checked the route today and none has been washed away, muddy in places though.

All the best - Ian
