I love Tooting but...

I don't think I'd come on holiday here.

Can someone explain to me where the market is for all these premier inn/travel lodge type hotels (above Primark, nr Balham station along with the existing one at Colliers Wood) that are getting built?  Genuine question.

Anywhere near a tube within the M25 is a target for the budget hotel co's. Think how many people have relatives down for various reasons and want to stay near their family rather than in central london. I can see the Balham/Tooting ones really coming in handy at various points in the year just for my relatives coming for family/seasonal events here.

I just wonder what is going to happen to the traffic and how local  services are going to cope. Wandsworth keep on giving planning permission without thinking how it is going to affect the hospital and the increase in traffic

Just in case you hadn't seen it...

Well, as a successful holiday home owner in Tooting, I can tell you that people really do come on holiday here throughout the year, from all over the world!

More specifically, people come on holiday to London, and find Tooting a good and affordable place to stay for the transport links into central London.  Not just the tube but the buses (inc night bus) and trains too.

Many of our guests are also friends and family of people who live in the area, but don't have enough room to accommodate them for a visit themselves.

Sometimes people from far come to visit family and friends in St George's hospital. It's handy to have Holiday Inn/bed and breakfast near hospital. Agree with DivineMrsM. I don't see how it's going to affect hospital or traffic!!!

love the video comedy t had  such a giggle.

As a sister at St George's I can tell you that relatives of patients who are from out of this area often have trouble finding somewhere to stay so I'm sure they will be pleased to have somewhere so close to their loved ones for visiting etc. Also, St George's is a university for medical/nursing students. As the student accommodation is small/limited, again, I think this will be a handy and convenient place for their family and friends to stay if they come to visit.

Have to agree with DivineMrsM. We have our Loft conversion on Airbnb.co.uk and we've had guests from Canada, Spain, France and all over come to Tooting for Various reasons. Visiting relatives that can't accommodate them is the main reason.Close to the Tennis is another. Not necessarily for the sights Tooting has to offer I must admit. But they must think there's a market for it. Comedy T Loving the video. Thanks for posting it. I've just sent it to all my neighbours!

It's not to sightsee around Tooting that people come, unfortunately there isn't much to see by way of landmarks or museums, however as a starting point for travel around London, visiting family or friends or hospital patients' or their relatives, or working people who spend the week in London and go home weekends to a home etc; will find inexpensive accommodation in and around Tooting very useful and convenient as has been underlined in the posts.

It isn't just tourists require accommodation. There are many different reasons that people stay in hotels/ B&Bs etc;

I quite often get on the tube in the morning and find a carriage full of european teenagers on a school trip. I presume they stay in the Holiday Inn at Colliers Wood as its cheap yet right beside a station.

I also think there may be company reps who would use these places perhaps calling on companies in Tandem Centre / Wimbledon / Sainsburys / M&S and so on.

Thank you.  I guess other people find it convenient for all the same reasons I do!

I thought it a crap video as apart from the shot of the tube it could be any place. The fact he did not mention that Tooting the very best place in South London to eat Indian was a sure miss. I imagine the director was in his early teens. I wonder what s##t hole the presenter grew up in.
Comedy T
Well, you can't please everyone can you.

Nicholas, we're flattered you thought we were teenagers, I thought I looked a little older than that in the video ;)

You did realise it was a spoof and not real programme, didn't you?
mungomuffit
I laughed all the way through watching it. Must have appealed to my immature type of humour ...
Sylvia
I think (therefore I am) the' teenage' director showing us the lovely sites (sic) in Tooting and why we desperately need wholesome accomodation In Tooting is because where you live Nic G/where someone grew up in..  is the sh you mention. Hmmmm- spider has activated his trap
Comedy T
Thanks Leanne & Mungomuffit :)

Well no surprises there I stand by my comment. It was not a spoof, a spoof surely has to have some talent behind it. Think Peter Sellers Broad Bosomed Balham or Citizen Smith. It also had a whiff of cowardice no flagging of McDonald's or KFC, the biggest purveyors of this type of food, that would be courageous.; and have point. To shaft all the small traders who wont come after you is a bit Wimpy. No it was not a spoof more like an adolescent poo joke

Cracked me up Comedy Trumpet!  Keep it up :) xx

Brilliant video, I'm sure the folks from Visit London will be knocking on your door :)

I didn't find it funny to be honest quite boring.

Oh dear Nicholas. You are really are a silly sausage.

It's just a silly sketch which some people will like and some won't and that's fine & dandy but if you're going to bother getting uptight about it, then bring it on the battle of words...

Round One...Ding Ding!
The sketch was spoofing the Holiday programme genre...Bam!
Citizen Smith was a sitcom, not a spoof...Kapow!
All of the 'small traders' mentioned (barring Fish & Kebab) are actually chain stores...Biff!
KFC was mentioned, with a camera close up of KFC and a voice over that said "KFC"...Zoink!

Ding, Ding!
Oh, and Nicholas is on the ropes...taken down by the Fatman. Can he recover?
Anna K

Oh the video was really funny. LOVED it!!

Let's see ComedyT, let's see

... but I'm grateful to Nicholas G for reminding me to look up the Balham sketch. Though not quite the teenager that you are CT, I'm still too young to remember it first time around, so shall Google it forthwith!

Nicholas, I don't see what's wrong having a crack at Chicken Cottage/KFC etc and Fish and Kebab is a "chew and spew" - hardly worthy of getting on a soapbox about. Bear in mind that there was also a crack about the Antelope.

Really a good laugh! Thanks!
