Dag Post and Divine intervention

Glad to see that the poll is still running in the Dagenham Post and when I last checked it was an overwhelming condemnation of LBBD's policy, and implementation. I hope that when the poll concludes we do not only get the % results but are given the figures for the number of votes cast ( Are you reading this Michael ?)

Also glad to see full page advert on p12 promoting Streetlife.

As for Divine Intervention see the article on p11 about the yellow lines outside St Erkenwald church.

Judging by the recent activity of the highways department I think that they must have been on e-bay and bought a job lot of yellow and white road paint :-)

You really couldn't make it up could you?  Bit like the hearse being given a parking ticket - which of course could happen here now.

There was absolutely no reason for the lines to be extended here and you'd have thought there'd have been a consultation with the church beforehand anyway.

Well done LBBD for such forward thinking - more money to rake in!

Many many years ago when I was a Traffic Warden churches in controlled zones with these problems used to contact the police with the time and date of any funeral/wedding. This was passed onto us and as a courtesy we would merely make sure there was no obstruction to traffic. No tickets were issued. Nowadays I guess technolgy no longer has that discretion.

Oh and LBBDC if you are going to implement CPZ make sure you paint the lines correctly. Haven't seen one that is yet.

Jan W I think the point that you make about the courtesy shown in the past is very true and likewise quite shaming because I think that you rightly suggest the courtesy is no longer there, not necessarily because of a lack of willingness on the part of the TW, Polce Officer or whoever, but due to the fact that for numerous reasons people are not allowed to use their own initiative or discretion. I can also remember a time when churches not affected by parking regs. would have a number of their own small cones to turn the relevant space into a no parking area until the arrival of the hearse or wedding car.

Couldn't the church be issued with some permits to allow the hearse, etc, to park for the duration of the ceremony? There could be a parking bay rather than yellow lines. These can still have restrictions to stop all and sundry parking there.

Agree with you Colin simple problem, simple solution, instead we have a simple mandarin at the town hall passing on ill conceived policy.
