Wooden Floor Specialists in Balham

We are thinking of having wooden floors fitted by them and were wondering if anyone else has had them fitted by them before?

Slightly worried that they charge extra for fixing 'any defect with exposed subfloor' as the quote is already high - but we wanted someone local to do this.  Our floor is made of concrete, with carpet on top, but we really have no idea what lies underneath!

If it's the place on Cavendish Road, I got them around for a quote and I wasn't impressed with the price or the Arthur Daley character who came to quote. I was going to use Jordans on Summerstown, just off Plough Lane. They have a showroom there. They seemed really good and I've read other recommendations for them. In the end, I purchased my flooring online and got one of my builders to fit it. If you don't have a recommendation for a general builder I'm sure someone on streetlife does! Worked out much cheaper doing it that way and I got exactly the wood I wanted.

Hi LG,

I asked for a quote for a whole house of over 1000 sq ft and it was quite pricey too. I didnt got for wooden floor in the end and had amtico flooring all over now. much better and on top of that, they are water-proof!!!

a good friend of mine had his lounge flooded and it was wooden flooring and the mess was silly. Hence, my choice for amtico flooring.

decision is yours.

Thanks for the replies, some food for thought there.  We were thinking of buying it ourselves and getting someone to fit for us - need to find someone to do it well though...

Would still like to hear if someone had any work done by them...  Would pay more if the quality is worth it, but don't want to pay more for no reason!

Hi LG
I have used the Wooden Floor Specialists in Cavendish Road twice and been very satisfied on both occasions.  They laid an engineered wooden floor in my hallway 8 years ago and sanded and stained my bedroom floorboards a couple of years ago (I decided I'd rather pay someone to do that for me after having sanded 2 floors myself several years ago!).  I was happy with their prices, though they may not be the cheapest.  The fact that they are a local company, independently owned and employ their own workmen influenced my decision to use them.  I found their service was very good.  There was some minor snagging required on the last job and they were very quick to put things right.  I would definitely consider using them again.

I can recommend Acacia:

The owner Albert did a fantastic job on my parquet landing which had been hidden under carpet for years. And he was the best quote!

We recently bought our floor from Jordans. They were very good and helped us choose the right product. We bought an engineered floor which they make themselves. Our builder recommended them and we where really happy with price and quality.

You can buy lovely oak floor for 23 pounds per sq meter from howdens if u negotiate hard. Get good chippy to fit. Don't go Jordan's they really overcharge for trims and even floors.
