Sewing Machine service needed

I haven't used my sewing machine for years and recently set it up only to find that the foot is stiff and even when that is down, the material stays stuck in one position.

Does anyone know how much it costs to service and/or repair a sewing machine?

I used the Wimbledon Sewing Machine Co by Tooting Bec and they were brilliant - mended and fully serviced my machine pretty promptly and I hadn't used it for 20 years and they told me it was as good as new.  It's a lovely old fashioned place that you've probably driven past a million times and never noticed.

Thank you all.

The closest to me is in Battersea so I will drop by and see them : )

Wimbledon Sewing Machine Co are possibly the best firm in the Country when it comes to sewing machines. The Sewing Centre in Battersea Park Road are an excellent resource though and that's where I go. I believe they sub-contract their work to the Wimbledon company, they certainly sell many of their products.

In both cases, you can't go wrong. We're very lucky to have these resources so close at hand.

All the best

Hi - I have 2 sewing machines which I use a lot. I've tried both places mentioned above but would definitely recommend The Sewing Centre in Battersea Park Road over the WimSew guys in Balham High Road. The price for a full service is usually about £60 at either place but the Battersea guys did a better job in my opinion. I don't think they do subcontract to WimSew. I would argue that the Wimbledon Sewing Machine Company is probably not the best firm if you are a domestic sewer. They specialise in industrial sewing machines. If you go into their shop, its nearly all Brother machines - a make that is sadly on the decline in quality. The Battersea shop has a much better range of makes if you want to see what else is on the market. It's a tiny shop in comparison - but a good one. Good luck!

I think the Battersea park guy is great. I had a 25year old sewing machine which needed a part which was no longer readily available and he took time to find the part and put new life into my machine. Would not hesitate to recommend him.

I popped into the Battersea sewing shop the other day and I will be taking my machine in there soon.

Thanks all : )
