Childcare in Tooting

Hi
I'm looking into childcare for January when I have to go back to work. it seems like all the nurseries are full so I am starting to panic. Anyone got any experience in how long it takes for places to open up, which nurseries are good or how to find a good childminder?

we went through that.. nursery places are very hard to come by. if you get your name down now, that might get you a place for january at one of them.
in the end, we found our son a place with a childminder in furzedown.  we cannot recommend her highly enough, she and her family have become more like our own extended family members.. our son stopped going early this year, but we still get him together with Tania's kids regularly. we interviewed about 5 minders, and used another one for a number of months (which was a disappointing experience) before we found Tania. Her availability is obviously limited, but you can contact her through her blog:  http://www.taniastots.blogspot.co.uk/..  otherwise, contact the council, they will give you a list of registered minders in the area.. and start making calls and doing interviews.
good luck, i remember the stress!

There is a nursery on the Springfield hospital site. I guess it depends on where you live. Look on hospital website I think it mentions it there. Good Luck

Crescent 2 runs out of Holy Trinity church on Trinity Road near Tooting Bec. Excellent nursery and sometimes places come up. Even if you don't get a place at popular ones - be persistent as their is quite a lot of fluctuation of tots.

Visiting local parent and toddler groups at community venues and children's centre's like Faylands Centre can help you find childcare. You can meet local childminders, see how they look after the children in their care and the educational opportunities that they are offering the babies and children. You can ask them if they have vacancies or if they are full up, if they can make a personal recommendation of another local childminder. Sometimes parents have to compromise by accepting less days with an excellent childminder until the full number of days required per week becomes available. But this is worth it if you want a great childminder. Always visit their home after meeting and go with an open mind! Follow up by reading the childminders Ofsted report and references after visiting and before deciding. Wandsworth Council website has a list of most registered childminders here  http://wandsworth.childrensservicedirectory.org.uk/kb5/wandsworth/fsd/category_results.page?qt=&loc=SW17&category=2260
Good luck!

Hi,

I am a newly registered childminder in the St Leonards end of Tooting Common.  Based in a large house with garden and plenty of resources for under 5's and I have space.  I haven't been inspected yet as I only registered recently but I have a website and you are welcome to come along and have a look.  My address is sw16 1qn and my website is:
www.souniquechild.co.uk.  You could also try www.ichild.co.uk (which is the NMCA website for childminders).  There is also www.childcare.co.uk which is also popular.

Doreen

My daugher goes to the Derinton playgroup too. It's great but only short sessinos (she does 2.5 hrs) so no good if you're gong back to work. The Looking Glass nursery nr Tooting Bec doesn't operate a waiting list policy so once you've committed you can usually get a place.
