Living in Overstrand

Spent over an hour in the sea at Overstrand on this very hot day. Looking around me, I thought that a lot of the people on the beach had travelled many miles to be here. I just had to walk down the lane!
Reminded me how lucky we are to be living here.

So true,i live in sheringham and we spend loads of time down our beach hut and in the sea, never really need to go on holiday as life here is one big one!!
Love overstrand tho,car boot on Thursday then brekkie at the cafe on the front...

You're right Roger, when you live by the sea, there seems little reason to holiday at another seaside.
As a boy living in Essex, I used to go on holiday to Cliftonville in Kent and it gave me happy memories. I wished then that my family would move there and it left me with a life-long desire to live by the sea - now achieved. Sadly, Cliftonville has changed dramatically since those days in the sixties.

Just home from the beach..it was tropica, clear, clean sea and oddly enough some rather friendly seals buzzing around close by..officially frazzled now and collapsed on my bed with the iPad.happy days once more in norfolk!

I travelled 100 miles from Essex to be on the beach today at Overstrand and am moving into the village in a few months time, cant wait. Maybe I will see you there.
Alan E
We may well have passed each other on the beach today Andy, as I went down to have a swim in the afternoon. There was a brief shower while I was swimming and a couple of peels of thunder but still enjoyed the swim. Part of the enjoyment is seeing all the other people enjoying their visit.

Hi Alan. We were in Cromer at that time after walking there along the beach. The sky turned very dull ,then the sky was lit with a fork of lightning above us and then a loud clap of thunder. We stood outside Budgins for 10 minutes with a few others waiting for the rain to stop. In the end we took a chance and walked back along the beach, we got a little wet but as we got close to Overstrand the sun came out. We then had a cream tea at the Sea Marge before we went home. I am really looking foward to moving to overstrand. It will be a dream come true, Its all planned for Feb/march, then I may well bump into you. Cheers.

Glad you enjoyed your visit, Andy and good luck with your move next year.

We were on the beach in Sheringham late yesterday afternoon and it was wonderful.  Calm sea, almost empty beach and my granddaughters crabbing on the rocks.
Andy W
I must say Jan the sea was the calmest I had seen it in years
Alan E
Being at the seaside is really nice for children, Jan. It gives them good
 memories that last a lifetime.

I find every year you get that one perfect beach day,for me this years was on Sunday, crystal clear sea, very warm and mill pond calm....sweet!
Not so hopeful for this weekend tho!

About three years ago, I bought a short wetsuit at Alby. ( I was thinking of getting one of those open, flat topped kayaks but never did) I have yet to get around to wearing (the wetsuit not the kayak!) it but this year, on cooler days, I will Christen it. Yes Rodger, those perfect beach days stick in the memory - it's nice to recall those days in the dark middle winter.
Rodger S
I live in my wetsuit on the beach, much warmer with it and really buoyant
Got a kayak and hardly use it now,get a bit spooked when out to far (orcas)! You never know eh
Alan E
I live within walking distance of the sea and thought of getting an open kayak but to get it to the beach I would need to use a set of those wheels attached to the back but then I wonder, what do I do with the wheels when I am using the kayak? If I leave them on the beach and someone nicks them, I would have difficulty getting the kayak up the slope and back home! or am I being paranoid!
Rodger S
Padlock them to the railings...fatyaks have storage box in them...go for it.will keep an eye out for you!
Alan E
OK.  Thanks for the advice, Rodger
Rodger S
No Beachlife this weekend eh....deffo no kayaking lol

A couple of Kayaks out there this afternoon off Overstrand beach, whilst one groin further along youngsters were trying out surf and bodyboards (or remains of the latter - the cheaper polystyrene ones seems to break)
Alan E
Swam out in the surf yesterday about an hour before high tide. Big waves made for a great time.

Andy W
sounds great fun Alan . I cant wait to do the same one day and  maybe I will join you

Alan E
