What do people in Romford think of the Queen coming to Romford soon?

The Queen visited Romford Market about 9 years ago and as you would expect it was a very successful day.
Now the Queen is coming to Romford again.
Who amongst us are looking forward to the visit and are there who would rather she didn't.

I would be interested in going along to see her. As we have recently moved to Romford, I would love to embrace celebrations in our new hometown! x

I do understand that a lot of people admire the royal family but as for myself,I missed the queens 1st visit to Romford 9 years ago,and I will do my best to miss her 2nd visit

The Queen will be visiting a new school called Drapers in Harold Hill on 26th October.2012.

I am happy to welcome HRH to Havering. Anything that gives the Borough the recognition it deserves.
Gavin (Alex Electrical)

Queen visiting Romford is fantastic, Romford will not have a Monarch on diamond jubilee year visit again for a very long time, we should all embrace it, my family and I went to the pageant and that was fantastic.

I'm with Alex Electrical

It's Her Majesty, Not HRH. And the  school in question is Drapers Academy, which has been built to replace  Kings Wood School In Settle Road, Harold Hill

Harold Hill , ummm I hope they keep her car well guarded. or it will be long gone.

It is just an excuse for the ruling junta of Havering Council to spend (waste) more money on H H.

Lets face it H H has over the years, had more money wasted on trying to improve, it than any other part of the brough and it still no better.

No Betty stay away from this area of Havering.

Dave W really !!! what is your problem with Harold Hill?? I've lived here for 21years
And have NEVER had any problems, I see from your profile that you live in Rush Green!
Which in my opinion is a really rough area, I know people who live there and they can't wait to move from Rush Green because of all the trouble that happens there!!
And I for one will be going to wave at Her Majesty,
Dave W
Lois S.

I will tell you what I think is wroung with HH.

1.To much council money wasted on the area .
2. It was and still is used as a dumping ground for the great unwanted .
3. I worked inthe HH area for a number of years. It was the only place where we not only had to have a security system, cctc and on site security guards. To stop the constant thrat of breakins etc.
4 during the tiome I worked there I had my car broken into 3 times. damaged/paint keyed 6 time.

As for Rush Green being a rough area, what trouble?..check theMet Police crime stats . I think you will find HH are very much higher.....

I would imagine that Harold Hill is no better or worse than anywhere else really.
We have the so called 'hoodies' who hang around on street corners doing their drugs/alcohol.
We have shoplifters and of course we have alcohol related problems.
No different really from when I was young and lived in Harold Hill.
Difference is these days there is more of it.
When I was young there used to be pub fights all the time in certain places. Now Harold Hill is much safer in the night time because all of that has gone to Romford.
I know I can drink in Harold Hill without any trouble.
We do have a thug culture these days but it is everywhere not just where we live.

I have lived in harold hill for 25 years moving here from rush green and our three children born in rush green hospital....I couldnt wait to get out of rush green, harold hill is in my opinion far better than rush green which is marginally better than bethnal green where I was born. As a former school governor of redden court when Her Majesty visited the school a few years ago I was very proud of the local people for the welcome they gave mostly from the "great unwanted" from harold hill. I'm not moving from HH.

I was born in Harold Hill 56 yrs ago and still live here. I have never had problems with my car or house. i find it a good area, clean and tidy and cant not fault it, i feel safe at night too (i wouldn't feel safe to walk round the middle of romford at night), yes there is problems, like silly little teenage gangs standing on corners of shop, but they got nothing better to do with themselves. but is there anywhere that there is not any problems.
I did see the Queen the fist time she visited romford town centre and I hope to see her this time too. it will be tough to get a glimpse this time, as the school is in Settle Road and its only a small short road that the school is in! but I will be in one of the houses there (a friend lives there) so will get a front bedroom window view :)

hi maggie or should i say neighbour, as i said before it was really good to see her at redden court during her golden jubilee... she arrived by helicopter swooping in to land on the school playing field. I was so lucky to be only a few feet from her   and prince philip, she was so interested in everything the school laid on and was so accomadating with the childrens flowers etc. the only downside was the huge security presence that kept lots of cheering onlookers at the school gate.
I totally agree with you about harold hill.

Maggie S,
I notice that on your last message you said that you were born in Harold Hill 56 years ago-Well Snap.
I was born in Harold Hill In July 1956 so you and me must be pretty well the same age.
I have lived in Harold Hill most of my life but have lived in Romford about 3 and a half years ago.
What school did you go to-I went to Quarles Secondary School and knew a girl called Maggie.
Could you be her.If you are great to hear from you after all these years. If not -Never Mind.
Let me know and hopefully we will speak soon.

take care.

Hi Raymond P , Sorry mate but I went to the rival school, just through the Manor, at Harrowfields Secondary School, Im a little older than you, born in April 1956, Born in Colne Drive and moved to Gooshays Drive when I was 18 months old, my parents lived in Gooshays Dive for 49 years. Nice to hear from people on the Hill :)
JH
Anybody else remember the punch up between harrowfields and quarles??
Raymond P
Yeah,
I remember them very well.we hated each other and every time Harrowfields and Quarles played each other in a football match you could bet your life the real match was the fight afterwards.
Those were the days. What was the score of the football match by the way.Ha! Ha!

I was born on Harold Hill in March 1956 and attended Harold Hill Grammer school sadly no longer there. It was a great place to live then we could all keep our front doors unlocked. But I have recently moved from there and never had any trouble. It is the same everywhere you go, I am in Gidea Park now. We have had trouble from a house with many loud parties. Never had that in all the places I lived in Harold Hill.
And the queen is welcome but I will be working as usual.
Tim M
We all love the Queen!!

I was born in Collier Row in 1947, moved to Harold Hill when I was 2, we lived in the prefab's at the top end of Straight Road that were built by the POW's, I went to Hilldene School and then Broxhill Secondary (short cut through the Grange) after a short stint in the huts at the bottom of Harrowfields because Broxhill wasn't quite finished (we had great fun with the Harrowfields 'scholars' who used to rib us a lot about being in the huts, but a good bunch) , when the prefab's were demolished we were moved to a house off Victoria Road, but still went back to the Hill every chance I got.

Harold Hill was a great place when I lived there, you could go anywhere whether with friends or on your own and never come up against any trouble, you could walk around at night and not get bothered, we used to get a great yearly fair up at Central Park which we went to every year, we'd walk everywhere on the Hill or just hop on the bus and go into Romford. The crime hasn't changed, it's just that a lot of it wasn't so much out in the open as now. There's always been gangs, there's always been punch ups and unless someone comes up with something that will get stop gangs, there always will be.

I went back up to the Hill a few years back and Hilldene Shops were really grotty, some were empty and it was dirty, however I've heard that it's had a bit of regeneration and is looking pretty good now.

Would I move back there, no doubt about it, of course I would, loved every minute on the hill.

Maggie S and Raymond P I was born in April 1956 and moved to Harold Hill in about 1959. I lived thier till 2008 when I split with wife and now live in Harold Wood. I went to Dycorts School, my sister when to Quarles and my two brothers went to Harrowfileds. When I left Dycorts I went to Royal Liberty as I passed my 11+ not that it did me any good. I lived in 3 places on Harold Hill in my time there and had no trouble whatsovever. Yes admittedly it does appear to have gone downhill and there are some places on the Hill that perhaps I would not like to live but I enjoyed every moment.
