my wife thinks our next door neighbour is housing a person in their back garden....anybody else know anything about this sort of thing? and what should we do ?
have you seen this person if you have not seen this person why do you think there is a person living in the shed or could it be a ghost mind you not all that long ago i did find sombody living in a car in whalebone lane don`t no why this was happenening also my estate cleaners clean the blocks of flats in whalebone lane across the road from the old b and q site found a person sleeping rough in one of the cubbards under the stairs and it was wintertime
Perhaps install a small but loud battery operated alarm, that will deter most intruders from accessing the shed/garage. B&Q have a small in-expensive range available.
next door to me they built a shed and then asked council for planning permission to rent it as a studio flat.the council said no and it not for human habitation. they must stop this ``bed in a shed`` idea that lots of these immigrants are doing for extra money. our back gardens are very small and this shed is an eyesore. i would not want someone living in it right next to my fence, so i am pleased the council refused permission
i tried a 'gentle shop' today with Redbridge council....but they wanted information about the building and who built it etc ...they didn't seem interested in that someone might be living in there...lol
I think this is so sad. People living rough are not all necessarily immigrants. If I read this right, there does not seem to be any sympathy for the sad, poor things that have had to resort to those living conditions. on the other hand, I hope they are not immigrants being taken advantage of - remember those drowned Chinese winkle pickers in Morecombe?
I suspect this isn't about "living rough". There are plenty of VERY well-appointed "garden sheds" in my street! One guy's got an extension, plus a conservatory, then a substantial brick-built shed. Remaining garden is about six feet! I think he may be one of the few who DON'T get away with it :-)
of course they should be reported its the duty of care owed to your neighbours. 90% of the time those who are living in those conditions are virtual slaves to the landlords and are held against their will and they have no way of getting out of that situation. not only is the landlord/ owner etc is breaking the law and their human rights it also puts a burden on other local people. also include photos of the offenders etc. i for one would not stand by and let this trade carry on mainly by illegal aliens.
Watched news early this morning. Fire brigade are warning local councils that they should be doing more about these people who are living in fire hazard conditions. Fire brigade are dealing with loads of these apparently, some fatal per week. If you strongly suspect it's going on, I suggest not only telling council but e mail your local MP who should be aware of the growth of this situation by their so called or would, constituents.
Before we develop this theme further, I think Dan needs to tell us whether this is about someone dossing in a wooden shed, or about an unauthorised house extension.
oh its a big ol lump of bricks and mortar....that i think didn't even get planning permission...which has a 'person' living in it.but as i said i did get in touch with the council and they didn't seem interested at all.maybe we shold see how they get on with the winter..lol
It is illegal, I saw a programme about this very thing a few years ago, and people that are living in these sheds are more often than not being taken advantage of, they have no running water and no toilet facilities and also no heating, so not only is it bad for their health it is also a fire risk. Not only that the council cannot charge council tax which I guess is what they are bothered about the most. It really comes down to the fact there are not enough homes at affordable rents, both my sons still live at home as they cannot afford to leave, they are 28yrs and 32yrs old and have to sleep in bunk beds that are meant for children as two single beds will not fit in the room.

So this is a human being, living in a brick building? Leave it alone. Times are hard.
