Stolen Mopeds

Dear all - this is copied from an email I received from Balham SNT:-

There has been a recent increase in robberies taking place in the Battersea Sector, many of which have involved the use of stolen mopeds.

We are therefore asking that you keep a particular eye out for mopeds in your area that may have been abandoned and report them to your local Safer Neighbourhood Team or to the Police on the non-emergency number - 101.

We are currently looking for the following motorbike, stolen recently.

Silver Yamaha YBR
125cc
VRM - WMO 09 BZC

If you see this vehicle, please contact the police

I am heartily sick of reporting stolen mopeds - and usually I can pinpoint who stole them.  We had one moped systematically moved along a road near me .. I reported it to SNT regularly verbally and by email.  It was moved from one road to another before it was moved to a local play park and set alight - I reported it every step of the way .. was too close to parked vehicles (including ours) for comfort.

Despite giving them reg marks .. dates and time and locations .. very little is ever / was ever done.  I am now saving my breath.

Hi Vivian - Sorry to hear that! It is very disappointing when a concerned and helpful citizen like your good self is let down by the Police.  I would write an email/letter of formal complaint to the Borough Commander - Ch. Supt David Chinchen. When your local SNT get a call from 'the big boss' - it will hopefully never happen again. Otherwise - I fear - your local SNT will continue to ignore valuable community intelligence from yourself and other good citizens - and that is WRONG.

So if you do get a moment - please do make a formal complaint - to ensure this doesn't continue!. The Borough Commander's Address is:-

Chief Superintendent David Chinchen
Wandsworth Borough Commander
Battersea Police Station
112-118 Battersea Bridge Road,
 SW11 3AF

This was a good while ago - some two / three years and - to be quite frank - I have given up.  The police know who the main ones are - I have seen them being their friends as they think they can trap more flies with honey than vinegar.  Which is why on a block of sheds the are 7 - 8 cycle wheels and tyres - one particular garden has enough cycle parts to keep Halfords going in sales.  The police are well aware of the address and the problems.

We tried to get some action from the police over the same group who were letting fireworks off overnight (03.00) and were having firework wars every evening .. aiming rockets at each other and our properties.  You daren't open your front door.  SNT doesn't work overnight - there was no 'semi-urgent' telephone line and the local plod used to turn up a few hours after.  They don't know where the fireworks are coming from so 'unless we witness it madam, there isn't anything we can do'.  Same story with the stolen 'peds and scooters.  Despite them doing wheelies up the road ... rushing at people on the pavements ... making the 'peds scream with noise .. but they can't do anything in case it endangers the people actually riding them.

No point wasting my breath ... when I am gasping my last I will regret wasting it!

So - gave up.

Hi Vivian - that is so sad - when an exemplary citizen like your good self goes out of her way to assist the Police and the local community and is horribly let down by the Met! I really wish Ch. Supt David Chinchen could read your above post....it's a powerful post which says it all....sadly there are very many people who have been similarly let down by The Met and have no confidence or trust in the Police :-(
