Looking for builder or company to replace french doors

We have some french doors onto our terrace and the same upstairs in our bedroom. Over the years with wear and tear, the wood has rotted and now the doors have to be replace completely.  Does anyone have any recommendations of builders or companies that can replace my doors. It looks like its going to be quite a hefty job as the actual frames need to be replaced as well.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

We have just had some sash windows built and fitted by Balham Glass who have a joinery as well as a glass department. They did an excellent job and it was competitive after we were given a 15% discount. I am not sure they do doors as well but it is worth asking them. There are lots of poor window and door trades people out there!

Hi Dianne, my husband's a builder (Clapham Building Company) and would be happy to give you a quote.  His contact details are: mobile 07973 530955 or email salatcbc@aol.com  Stephen has recently carried out this task as part of a contract in Battersea recently so you could view his work.  Other ref. also available.

Thank you to both of you for your replies. Sue do you think your husband would be able to come over and give us a quote? I will send you a direct email and we can finalise the date.

Thanks so much.

I would like to change the roof on a very small conservatory in a basement flat.  Is this something that your husband does Sue?

The roof is some kind of plastic which is too hot in summer, too cold in winter.  Friends have suggested just putting in 2 panes of glass;  or making it a solid roof.

I just want to do this as cheaply as possible for a second bedroom.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

What did you mean when you wrote "There are lots of poor window and door trades people out there" Physio?  Lisa

We have used the London Door Company with success twice before. Not the cheapest but very good old-fashioned quality.

Hi Sue L.

I sent you an inquiry regarding the roof of my tiny conservatory after reading what you wrote to Dianne Meyer.  Can your husband do this sort of thing?

Thank you.

Hi Physio for All

I sent you a message regarding your conversation with Dianne Meyer.  Does Balham Glass replace panels on a small conservatory roof?  Thank you.
Physio for All
I am fairly sure that Balham Glass will replace panels on a conservatory roof and fit them. My comments about the quality of some companies that fit windows is unfortunately based on experience of having had some poor work done in the past at huge prices. Doing research in places like Streetlife really pays off.

Thanks Physio.  I do know what you mean.  I'll give Balham Glass a ring.  Lisa

Having used both the excellent but overpriced London Door Company and the much cheaper but equally reliable Todi & Boys from Putney Arches, I would recommend the latter.

I have just had new French doors and new windows fitted and can highly recommend the firm who were professional and completely reliable. The wood used is guaranteed for 10 years having being  treated beforehand . They recommend repainting after 8 years- pretty good for external wood work. The doors arrived ready painted and were fitted in 2-3hrs. The firm is Caspall Window Installations tel 01628 784089.

Great insulation and security features.
