Shed Robberies

Just a warning...two of my friends with bike sheds have had their shed hinges unscrewed and bikes stolen.  There is a simple solution for this, replace one screw on each plate of the hinge with one-way screws.  They are called clutch head screws and can be bought from Screwfix at South Wimbledon or ask your local DIY shop to get them in.  They cost less than £3 a packet...

when I bought my actual shed I couldn't understand why the hinges are fixed with screws, it is utterly pointless!

Our cycle shed had its roof pried open and now it doesn't shut properly.
Now we keep our waste bins there since latch and lid have been broken or forced beyond repair. That the shed is in our front garden didn't faze the vandals. We are not completely fenced/walled in and this is no doubt is understood as an invitation to enter and vandalise, throw garbage or destroy property.

Neighbour bought new £1000 bike from Evans and locked it in shed in back garden of house in the middle of a terrace.( no side access)  Within a week someone had stolen it because they knew it was there.......

Thanks for posting this. Terraced houses with no side aspects do not deter thieves as my neighbour also found. They simply broke into the house opposite and stole from them, then made their way through the back gardens.

We suffered something similar a few years ago - when they couldn't get the rusted-beyond-repair screws out they used the screw driver to break the wood slats instead.  They also came back 3 times to break into our neighbour's shed until they put their bikes in the house.

Even with a new security enhanced shed, my husband's bike lives in the kitchen!  It's not worth the increased premiums on insurance to risk it in shed.
