Now hold on just a gosh darn cotton pickin minute there, some people may enjoy the fireworks more than others who may enjoy them less but fireworks are NOT a "waste of money" any more than public parks libraries, rose gardens and football matches are a waste of money. Beauty, culture, enjoyment, fun are all things which enrich peoples lives and are valid and worthwhile because of that. You may not value fireworks David, a lot of people do, maybe some people don't appreciate the things that you like, but that doesn't necessarily make them a wast of money that should be banned now does it?
poetry, art, cinema, strictly, X factor, bars of chocolate, roses, the olympics, morris dancers, bagpipes, drinking a lovely pint of beer (or 2), non procreational sex, dear old Clive Dunn (God rest his soul) prancing about like a fool in Dad's Army . . . . the list could pretty much go on forever; a lot of things which are very precious to some people could be considered by others to "serve no useful purpose".
I don't personally think that comparing non-consensual sexual abuse with a beautiful and exciting firework display is particularly helpful or valid really. I also can't agree with the suggestion that we should choose to live in a world where nothing is allowed unless it fulfills a utilitarian function any more than I can understand why anyone would want to get a bus to a hospital when the hospital has gone and isn't even there any more!
Moreover (deftly ignoring the fact that we were talking about NYE and not bonfire night) maybe the young folk ought to be educated and helped to learn the lesson that it is always important to remember and celebrate the torture and execution of those whose religious views we disagree with.
Remember Guy Faulkes died so that we might all enjoy some fireworks on New Year's Eve.
I see no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.
Oh thanks Oliver, I'll ask you to do that for me please, you seem very 'connected'...I'm at NDDH in December so asap would be great. I know its dark early now so actually FIREWORKS may help here....lol Cheers, Im counting on YOU .. :-)
