We're looking for parent volunteers to support local families

Home-Start Suffolk Coastal is a charity which provides support to families for whom life can be difficult. Families we support must reside is the Suffolk Coastal District, and have at least 1 child under 5 living at home.

Over the Past year we have provided support to over 100 families who live in the district, helping out families with twins, triplets, Mental Health problems, medical difficulties, Bereavement and families who are Isolated to name a few.

Support is provided by volunteers who are parents themselves or have some experience of parenting.

The scheme also runs 4 Family groups, which provide parents with a supportive environment to learn new skills, have the opportunity to meet friends, share experiences, and also get some 'me' time during the sessions, which run weekly in term time, in Woodbridge, Leiston, Felixstowe, and Priory Heath-Ipswich.

Volunteers visit as a professional friend, bringing whatever is needed, a confidential listening ear, help with entertaining and playing with children, an extra pair of hands and eyes, and support to help a family through a difficult time.

All volunteers receive 35hrs accredited level 2 initial training, and ongoing support and supervision from scheme staff.

Our next preparation course for volunteers starts January 18th, and will run on Fridays 9.30-2.30 over 9weeks (excluding half term)

If you would like to know more about supporting a local family, or feel you would benefit for support yourself please call 01394 389402, or visit www.home-startsuffolkcoastal.btik.com
