Community First Responders

Any live in the Fornhams, Culford,Hengrave or Lackford areas?. We need some more CFR's in our team.We are completely self funding, including our buying our equipment. CFRs are a group of volunteers who give up their time to respond to 999 calls to the East Anglia Ambulance service. We are often closer to the area than the ambulance itself.Full training is given. You need a full driving licence.Jill.

And what happens when they get sued by the ambulance chasers?
Jill M
Sorry, can you explain your self grumpy??I all the years CFRs have been doing their fantastic job, no one has been sued.I hope that if you need someone in vital minutes following chest pains etc, you would receive immediate attention form a CFR near you,
Grumpy
Simple. You attend and give treatment then get sued when it goes wrong or they die? Shouldn't we leave emergency treatment to the experts?

from www.lives.org.uk/faqs

"The nature of the First Responder scheme is that local people are trained in simple and safe techniques that can be used to save life. These techniques are rarely, if ever, associated with causing harm and in true life and death situations, there is often little harm that can be done compared to doing nothing at all.

All First Responders are trained to a high standard and will be expected to operate within a code of practice. They will be insured against accidental injury and third party liabilities by EMAS and LIVES.

There has never been a case in the UK of a volunteer First Responder being sued for alleged mistakes during attempts to save life."

Thanks you for your comment, Matthew G Is this site moderated, I wonder, as i though it was to share information and ideas, and i know we can comment, however,Ii found Mr. Grumpy's comments rather upsetting. It also must be mentioned the CFRs can provide a huge amount of comfort to patients and families alike. Just being there, at a time of crisis is very beneficial. As you so rightly pu tit, we are all trained up and assessed and have regular up-dates, in our own time as well ! We have a phone, so we are in contact with EAAS.I can not see how you can be sued for trying to save lives. We use oxygen, have a defib as well....and administrating the O2 is very helpful to someone is distress.

I like free speech.....there is no right to 'not be offended' so let questions be asked and opinions be expressed. Harmony comes from understanding and that comes from debate
Jill M
steve T I agree, however, unkind, unsubstantiated and unjustified comments do not help.

Just because you do not like the views of a member is no reason to have the comments removed.
Mr G may be living up to his name and have not researched his opinions but that is no reason to get his comments removed. It gives the experts a chance to put him right!
Richard M
How have all the previous comments helped anything, anybody know?
John B
My wife regularly updates her first aid skills in case anything should happen to me. Not that I'm likely to but I am the only one who knows where our savings are kept.
If I should keel over with a heart attack I would be grateful to anyone who could help me, (especially if it's a beautiful young lady giving me mouth to mouth!)
Jill M
this last comment made me smile... I was not expecting the views expressed above. I was spreading the word, of a cause, not making comments about anything, and all I received were some unpleasant comments, quite  unfounded. I do not wish Mr. grumpy's comments to be removed....as we do have free speech, but all this is the wrong context. I will not bother with street life again.

Don't give up on streetlife Jill. I know it is a shock when you see such responses to your comments.  But there are a lot of people following who don't dare comment, (not surprisingly), but who like to get such information as yours.
Matthew G
I pity poor Grumpy if he thinks belittling the selfless actions of volunteers like the First Responders is somehow big or clever.

Jill please don't give up. But please do report his comments if you found them hurtful - you can choose "report comment" from ths options menu next to the comment. Then at least the powers that be will know about this and may look out for similar issues in the future.
Jill M
have done...! and thanks everyone.I will stay here now.:)
Steve T
We appear as a society to be becoming rather thin skinned.....debate is essential for advancement and debate includes not carrying your argument with all.
If you don't accept that position, you should not engage in it and you should certainly not endeavour to prevent others from doing so.
I too am glad you choose to stay with the site,
Ian F
I think you have to see Grumpy for what he is - a textbook Internet troll. Comments like his are just there to push peoples buttons.

I have previously thought about responding to his comments but have decided not to. Ignore him and he will either change his manner of interaction or go away.
Frank S
Preferably the second Ian!

Grumpy = troll just ignore the miserable so and so and carry on doing the fantastic work of a first responder :) you never know he may need your services one day if hes real that is
