River Sid, Up And Over

10.30PM:  Just walked down to the raging river; It is as bad, if not worse, than earlier this year - just hope nobody is drowned in their bed tonight!

Big question over whether this valley can take any more concreting over!

Thanks Tom, very helpful, looks like we will have to run somewhere other than the Byes tomorrow.

twitter reports that there is a collapse on Sid Road

The river is over the bridge down at Lawn Vista and people are trying to move cars parked down near the ford as water floods the road and threatens houses.

The river has dropped back down, there is hardly any wind and the sky looks good, so it now looks like a great morning for your run Robin!

More rain on the way this afternoon/evening and tomorrow ................. more pressure on the already saturated fields and full rivers. Tom Putt ..... what buildings, structures or developments in the Sid Valley do you think are causing all this flooding and problems for the river Sid?

Years ago it used to flood in Bridge Street - Sidbury the source of the river is not too far away.  That it why the river  falls and rises so quickly - the river is so short.

Going to Ottery the farmland  is saturated, mud was coming onto the road and it was like a river - there is the odd house on the way to Ottery - plenty of Donkeys at Slade Farm.  Perhaps I missed the tower block and multie storey car park!

If you build on a flood plain you are going to have problems i.e. Drill Hall.

Many years ago they improved the pumping station (sewage works) - I dread to think what things would be like if they had not done this.

Sorry it is Woods Farm on the way to Ottery.

Hope the Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary - Woods Farm donks are OK up there, they are more elderly than the younger donks on Slade Farm. I guess its whether the staff can get up there at the moment, I dare say a few polo's will set them right.

TIAII; Not any buildings, structures or developments around the Sid Valley in particular that are causing all this flooding and problems for the River Sid, just pointing out that the more we build, the greater the run off!
