I agree with Dave a big well done, shame it wasnt given to them as a present seen we have the only dad,s army places in england. But I hope they get the money back to its sponsors or even the sponsors say dont worry keep the money
Am so pleased the 'Jones' van is coming to Thetford, am sure Clive Dunn is looking down with a smile on his face!! Well done to all those who made this possible and THANK YOU. Dads Army has new generations following it and its as popular as ever and will carry on so to be for many years to come. One of the best comedy series this country ever made.
Trevor I always understood that something is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it! It is worth it for the Dads Army museum as it is another thing that the many Dad Army Fans will want to see when they visit the museum - all run by volunteers at no cost to the local tax payers.
That's fine Caroline and I understand the feelings of the many volunteers. I just think they intended to get it whatever the cost and now have to raise all that money. By the way I have offered my help with fund raising, but have not had a reply.
Hi Trevor, It was a lot of money and more than we would ideally have spent, however there is only one Jones van and as the Dad's Army Museum and the original Walmington on Sea we felt that it would be money well spent, both for the Museum and for the Town as a whole. It is a lot of money to raise but we have done that before for the statue, all be it a little less that time. On the fund raising offer I'm not sure where your e mail/letter has ended up so apologies if you have not had a reply but I will pass on the offer as all help is gratefully received whether in the form of financial or time donations.
Not the case - The Appreciation Society did offer the location photos etc. to the Town Council 10 years ago but instead these ended up at Bressingham who invested in their street scene mock up - There were no actual BBC props on offer or available at the time. As far as the Anchor is concerned it would have mad an ideal place for the Museum but it has never been available for that purpose unfortunately and the current owners, Breckland Council, are to demolish it within the next few weeks.
Hi Bill - The Museum has borrowed funds from 2 very generous sources, Trevor & Mavis Jenkins and the Pearson family, and will now raise the funds to repay them

Perhaps the Anchor would have made an excellent Dad's Army museum or is that the ultimate insult??
