I know prescriptivism is out of date but it does have its place in working with children.

Hannah R is of course right and lots of mistakes go unchallenged but as long as the message gets across then it doesn't matter too much.  I often find that although I read through that which I have written I see a mistake as soon as I have clicked to send the post. I probably could have done with Hannah to help me when I was young.  Still never mind I have managed to get my point across most of the time.  I find that the E.E.N makes lots of spelling mistakes but the one which annoys me is when they do not finish an article.  Oh Well!  They're human.
