Cynical/mismanaged supermarket

My mother took advantage of a Morrisons offer whereby she could order some items in advance and then simply turn up on Sunday to pick them up, dispensing with the need to traipse round the aisles. So some days ago she paid her deposit and then today, as agreed, turned up to pay the balance and collect her shopping. However, when she turned up she was made to wait half an hour whilst Morrisons staff scurried off - apparently round the aisles - to get her stuff, and then she had to get into the ultra-long queue at the check-out with all the other shoppers; and when she arrived at the till, instead of being asked to present a pre-order slip, she was required to put everything across the till as usual. So what's the point in pre-ordering? Were Morrisons taking advantage of my mum or are they not managing their business correctly? It's one or the other.

I've got some things on order from Morrisons for collection this morning.  I'll let you know if my experience is the same as your Mum's.

I suspect this is a new system they are trialling ahead of online shopping, a new system that your mother may have found a bug within.

At least up to the point of making her queue up in the already long queue, thats a bit off.

Hopefully they've learnt from it.

But if we don't have at least something to kvetch about at Christmas it just isn't a proper Christmas!

I'm now off to stuff the turkey.  Did the same last year and the fuss it made was enough to make me want to kill it!

personally richard i think that was disgusting treating your poor mum like that, what if the things she pre-ordered were out of stock! i think she should at least phone the manager or write a letter of complaint i would i dont think we as a nation complain enough which is why some businesses take the micky.

Well my experience this morning was fine. I presented my paperwork to customer services, went & got my other shopping in the store.  When I got back to customer services all my things were ready & there was no queue at the checkout. Yes I had to put the order through the checkout but was not a problem.
Obviously they were more organised today. :-)   I would definitely use the system again.

Happy christmas to all

Thanks for all your comments... Roger, I hope your turkey isn't as dry as you are... Carole, why pre-order and then put up with queuing to pay? That wouldn't happen at Tesco...just a minute, yes it would... I've complained to Morrisons, as my mum's typically British, lived through the hardships of WW2 and doesn't like to make a fuss, etc,  and I await their reply.

I parked on the pavement today and I've got a glass of wine in my hand, so nothing more to kvetch about.
June W
For goodness sake Richard step out of the car!! don't want you getting done for drink driving heaven forbid....

Richard B, did your parking on the pavement also block the cycle lane and close to the junction as well.

Anyway only 5 1/4 hours to Christmas day and still waiting for another grandchild to be born a few days overdue now. And we are all just waiting . Happy Christmas to all.

Everybody just enjoy the day - Richard B is lucky I still havent found my car
Carole
Hope everyone had a good couple of days without too many vehicles on pavements, traffic jams in cycle lane, breath tests or lost cars   :-)

Richard B I ordered in advance so I would get the type of meat I wanted (no panicking they would have run out) & collect on Christmas Eve.

Roger K thanks for introducing me to a new word - I must have had a sheletered life !!! I've had a lovely Christmas without any kvetching. Hope everyone has had a good time too.

Excerpts from Morrisons' sickly, disingenuous reply, which consisted of a slightly customised form letter: "I was sorry to learn of the issues you experienced...this matter has been taken very seriously indeed...It is never our intention to disappoint our customers...We sincerely appreciate you bringing these matters to our attention...I have no hesitation reiterating our sincerest apologies to you..." etc. Mind you, it did contain the magic words "As a gesture of goodwill I have sent you a shopping voucher which I hope you will accept with our compliments." My mum's pleased about that, so it had better be a good one!

The day before Xmas Eve was appalling in Morrison Beccles..the car park was totally full which led to people fighting for their space.Maybe someone should have been at the car park entrance slowing down the arrivals?
So we entered the store...and eventually joined the long queues...where again at the check outs..long queues again and fighting!
My gripe isn't about that though . it was of an old frail gent with one small instant supper in his basket getting unnoticed and he had thus to join the greedy hoards[my words]
I left my place and found a Morrison girl and asked if she could help him to the counter
To the credit of this girl and her supervisor this she did...and the old gent was soon moved to the head of a queue
Why oh why did we not notice this guy and other elderly people in distress???
It was Sunday and 2 decades ago it would have been a normal pre Christmas and many of us would have been at church
Before everyone criticises a heavily pressured Morrison staff.a few of whom would have liked to have been at their place of worship too......would not many of us have been better at church singing Advent carols and thinking about the real meaning of Christmas ..instead of feverishly filling our bulky bulging baskets and ousting and pushing all others out of our way?

@ Phillip C ---

Christmas is no longer predominatly a religious festival.  For that matter Christianity is now on the wane especially in the UK.

@Roger K--

Your view is hugely rational as we enter 2013.....no problem with that ,.but on the wane is too strong...we may well worship Mammon now..but
Christianity has lasted 2000 years and will somewhere on the planet last at least another 2000 years..and ,if we don't have it we will need to replace it with a code of good behaviour or civilisation will die as we know it.
thank you for getting back and a most happy 2--0-1-3

There is very little from the teachings of Christ in Christianity, Paulianity would be a much more fitting name. Good grief, there's one so called “Christian” church that has had to mess with the Decalogue, specifically the Third, in order to get around their practice of worshipping idols.

And seeing that the Decalogue is written in every Torah, and the Torah was (allegedly) handed by Big G to Moses thousands of years before the birth of JC and has been faithfully redrawn – not copied but actually redrawn ever since – to mess with that takes something more than chutzpah.

Religion and the worshipping of things that man has made in his own image is thankfully on the wane amongst the people not infected by or who have made recovery from the religious meme.

If only it would slink of into some dark corner and just peg-out. Bit of a shame it probably won't – but we can hope.
