Re Family Research - A Big Thank You

Sometime in November I posted re family research, and received helpful replies from Leslie R, Maureen B, Matthew G and Stella, so I'd like to say a big thank you to you all.  Not long afterwards, on 30th Nov. my broadband cut off.  A nightmare couple of weeks followed with me and Virgin (don't ask!) which resulted in me deciding to change BB providers, which I've now found is definitely not for the faint-hearted!

Went to BT, and my new BB was finally activated on 20th Dec.  Fantastic, except I discovered that I couldn't navigate around anywhere, open links or other pages, etc.etc. unless I waited for 4/5 minutes for every link to open.  Got onto BT engineers, who diagnosed that it was my Internet Explorer that was now acting up, so they installed Google Chrome for me, which happily seems to be ok.  So I've been without broadband for close on a month, which has seemed like an eternity.  Only reason I'm boring everyone with this is that when people take the trouble to respond to you, and then silence, they'd be forgiven for thinking they'd wasted their time.

But I've been lucky, because a relative has been digging around (on family research) on my behalf, since I've been offline, and I've now nailed the elusive grandfather I was searching for.  So I now know that after getting my (unmarried) grandmother pregnant in 1907, promising to marry her and then going back on the deal, he married someone else soon after (she was pregnant also), had two more children, then skipped off to Australia!  The Bounder!!

A belated Happy Christmas to all, and all good wishes for a peaceful and happy New Year.

Jay, great you have got started on the research.  Beware though, it can be very addictive - I have got back to the 1700s in my tree and uncovered a few skeletons, one even murdered 2 people!

I have been working on my family tree for about 5 years and have enjoyed it.Found out my grandmother was born under her mother's maiden name, took a while to find her.
Even my great grandmother had 2 children out of wedlock including my nan. Then she went and had a child by someone else while her 2nd husband was  away serving in WW1 He even forgave my great grandmother and bought the child up as his own.

I have similar things in my tree Maureen going way back.  I find it all makes it so more interesting though. lol
