Enjoyed a very pleasant Sunday Lunch at 'The Sportsman' with our daughter and son in law, followed by a very gentle stroll around part of the village.
Brightened an otherwise grey and dull day.

Hi Bernard,

I have often thought of going to the Sportsman, I didn't know it did food.  Would you recommend it?

Hello Iain;
The service was fine and the food good. 3 of us ordered beef and trimmings and the other one had chicken. We were seated at a table in the bar, which I found more convivial than the dining room, that a larger number of used previously. Probably not convenient in the bar for a group of more than four or five people. We will definitely use 'The Sportsman again.
To show my age, I remember going in there when it was 'The Black Horse' and the licensee was Maud May, who ran the establishment with her sister. It had sawdust on the floor, but the ale was good.

Thank you Bernard,  high praise indeed.

From your comments I would imagine that you are a similar age to myself, but as I have only lived in the area for 3 years, I would not be so bold to suggest that you are in your early 60's like me!

Do you know if there are any good walks in the area as I am a keen walker being a volunteer leader with the King's Lynn Walk for Health campaign.

Since moving here from Essex I can honestly say how much nicer the people are and how peaceful it seems.

Thanks again, we cannot wait to try the Sportsman, family comingg up in 2 weeks time which may be a good enough excuse to try it.

Hi Ian;
Perhaps be best to book a table. We did just to be sure of seats.Phone 860026

Good advice and thank you.

Hi Iain;
Having retired early with lower back problems and having also developed intermittent Plantar Fasciitis, I do not walk very far. My favourite Summertime walk is through the Old Field estate, over the Fridaybridge Road, through the Henry Warby estate, over the dyke and along Black Horse Lane to the Sportsman, and back through the village. I have driven to Chapel Lane and walked along the old canal route to Collet's Bridge, then back to the car. Our young neighbours waqlked through the village along that route to Collett's Bridge , then home along Gosmoor Lane, which is a little too far for me.
If you walk along Gosmoor Lane towards Collett's Bridge and turn right on to Bar Drove, past the caravan site and follow the road to it's end, then turn right and right again on to The Stitch, following that back to the Fridaybridge Road, where a right turn heads you back to Elm, it is a good walk but a little too far for me. Done it once over Christmas and was relieved to get home for a sit down!
