You could try any of the open churches.There are places like the RSPB cafe in Purfleet several museums and the council offices very quiet there nothing happens.

Thanks Ixion, that's a really good idea..I never thought of churches to be honest...thanks a lot.. I will also try your other suggestions too. Well if they are anything like the council here I can understand from when I helped out @Young conservatives, every time I walked in someone was on a certain social website or eating fish and chips lol

The Queens theatre is quiet sometimes during the day, you can just sit and get a coffee etc.

I love the idea of the RSPB (thats if you have a car) off the A13 Rainham Marshes There is a a great cafe with an unbelievable view , that u can sit n ponder whilst writing...brilliant on a lovely clear day , sometimes you can just get inspiration from nature....

Someone else on here recently told me about the same place so I will definitely be checking it out :) Thankyou. Although I do not drive myself..  :( It sounds really nice from your description and the other person who told me, perfect place for writing! I agree, much more interesting than looking at buildings all day as well.. Just what I need it sounds like.

You can get to the RSPB by train to Purfleet or the bus goes right by.
Its not a long walk from the station as there is a short cut across the park by the Museum in Purfleet.

Ixion, do you know anything about the museum, such as opening times ? I know I am being lazy by asking rather than surfing.
PS Like the name change, why ? I was thinking of becoming Diogenes but I have never lived in a barrel :-)

I am due to deliver to Purfleet tomorrow will look up the times of opening.
I changed my name as the other got cloned on another site and by changing my name it changed all my posts thus showing those not from me.
However Ixion was condemned to wander for ever the sky strapped to a fiery wheel and I ride motorcycles as did a 20th century writer in a famous motorcycle magazine the blue un.

During the Winter the Purfleet heritage and Museum is only open Thursday and Sunday.
It was quiet and cold today.The RSPB was busy with good pasties and scones.
Lots of people walking their dogs today.

Mmmm, sounds lovely!

Way back in the early 1980s I wrote a novel (unpublished) in Hornchurch Library.  It was quiet then...today it can be chaotic, though the benifit of computers would be a major plus today for any aspiring writer.

I have never actually been to Hornchurch Library but I like libraries so I must visit, thank you for the suggestion Ho-Hum :) Ah, hopefully I arrive on a not too chaotic day! I love writing novels, that sounds interesting, if you ever want to share it (if you still have it) let me know, I love reading peoples works and always good to take things from, be inspired by. I agree, I do find it easier and more efficient to type on my laptop but despite being of the so called computer age I also like to balance by hand-writing story notes, ideas etc best I can, especially good for travelling as it's much easier to carry a note book and a pen than a notebook computer I find :P

How about Queens hospital it has a huge cafe area and you could sit in there or use the foyer chairs or sit in the Blood test waiting area.
King Georges is good as well.

It sounds like we have a lot of talent in Havering.  I hope you do well in the competition. what type of short story did you write?

Well I guess so, I believe there is talent everywhere :) Competition? Do you mean if I get it published? But apart from that I am in no competition at the moment but thank you. I do not write short stories, have never managed to! I remember at school teachers asking us to write short stories and sighing when they looked at mine it did make me laugh :) I write all kinds, mostly adventure, sci-fi, epic novel, that sort of thing, I don't write comedy stories as such but I love comedies as much as discussing serious things so whereas my stories are tense and moral I bring my humour out in my spoof blog and comedy scripts :) I'm currently working on my biggest story ever, in terms of pages and the story itself, I'd love to get it published sometime.

That's a good idea, well Queens isn't far from me at all so I can easily take a look, good idea thankyou, I'll take a look and I always end up putting things in from my surroundings whether physically or with symbolism so look out for a chapter with busy nurses or a discreet nod to the NHS, hmm maybe I'll play on the initials, have a group in the story called Neighbours Nelping Streetlife, no thats to obvious ha.

Sorry Barry, i think I got slightly confused between yours and Ho Hum's.  Oh I have just seen your post above.  

Your works sounds very interesting.  I heard somewhere that very few people who start writing a book actually finish it.  I think it must be so fulfilling to finally actually finish such a mammoth task.  I really hope that you do get your work published.  Perhaps the local press might be interested.

Oh no it's fine, it's my fault, silly browser has been playing up not showing websites properly :) Yes I didn't see Ho Hum's until after I posted my first which was why I was confused about a story competition but it sounds really great, well done all entering.

Well that's a funny story, because the one I am working now is actually an old one I started years ago, revived once, forgot about or something happened, revived again then forgot about etc until last year I weirdly found my hand picking up a pen and reviving it yet again so I can see that quite easily although I have finished some (although much shorter than this one) before but for some reason this one gave  me a lot of trouble but I guess now i'm in the right frame of mind, right sort of creativity going on up there that ideas keep flowing out so I'm determined to finish it this time for good. I agree, whether paintings or a book or something else, stepping back after finishing it helps you see why you did it but for me also is seeing others read it brings me the most joy so thank you, I would love to. I never thought of that...thank you, people on here always seem to have such helpful ideas, yes because writing can take a while as you say but then their is the whole journey of trying to get a publisher to notice you!
