I don't know if they have been on our estate in Hornchurch yet I will find out tonight, but they certainly haven't been outside my factory in North St, I have had to put some outside myself. I will get some more tonight in B&Qs. Go careful folks.
There was a water leak outside the school in Cannington Road, men were working on it but pumping a huge amount of water into the road so it will be like a skating rink later on.
I haven't noticed any gritting around Beckton's side roads and streets leading to the main roads. I have emailed my MP a few days ago (because it was the same last year) but haven't heard from him nor seen any gritting (as mentioned at the beginning).
adepe, did you expect a reply form your MP?As long as they don't slip on their own arse they are probably not very bothered. But if councils supplied more gritting bunkers ( like they do in Germany) residents could grit the sideroads and pavements themselves, and do it for those who are unable to do it
The council do the main roads where buses travel, they don't care about side streets, but yes in other countries they provide salt so people can put it outside there own houses and this helps clear it quicker. Also they have mini gritters to do pavements, similar to the mechanical roadsweepers. I think they also have these in Westminster London.
The council do roads where buses run, then they do schools hospitals, Doctors etc, if you are unlucky to not live near them, then the roads and pavements end up sheets of ice. So they need to do more and supply bins of salt. Back in the 70's there were yellow plastic bins that had salt in them where I lived and people would go and get some and clear those side streets. Shame the councils don't do that now
A gritter truck drove past here today but it did not put any grit down, the only time it was gritted in the32yrs I have lived here is when there was a funeral. and that was a few years ago.
