I would if I could, Seagull...  I doubt my landlord would approve of another dog, then there's the current top dog (also getting old, 10 this Spring) who can't live with another dog due to his past experiences.

What worries me is this 'free to a good home' statement: This is what the providers of cats and dogs for laboratories look for, in their trawl for lab orders.
So please, please, do make a house check prior to letting him go and insist on a right to visit 3 to 6 months after rehoming.
I completely understand that your sentiment is plainly that you seek no financial profit from rehoming your dog and that is admirable, but do beware of the sick bastards out there who have only their financial gain at heart -lab animals are big business, however quiet this is kept; it does exist and it doesn't help to try and ignore it.

I would advise having a written agreement signed by both parties, whereby should anything happen, the dog should come back to you, not be dumped any odd how; that is what rescue centres do so I think anyone passing on an animal should do it too, it's only fair on the pet.

Best of luck to you and Ziggy! x

I agree with you, this is a valuable dog.  Could be sold on.  But I would like it but Mr Seagull says no to another.

Hi all after much consideration..we approached the ARC..and Ziggy is very happy waiting for his new owners. Turns out Dogs like ziggy who have been loved cared for and trained......are like gold dust.!!
Which is excellent news. Max our 8 year old springer collie cross has his bounce  and most importantly he is talking and smiling again.. As an animal lover I wouldn't seek to profit from this little one. thanks everyone.
Had not even considered the possibility of the lab experiments ..ewww.

Wendy B  Please keep posting - there are so few of us!

Well done.  My dog from the R.S.P.C.A. did not like other dogs, she is a cruelty case.  I was told that have another dog it would do her good - we did, she snarled and was very upset.  So I understand where you are coming from.

We had this dog from a charity (not R.S.P.C.A.) to test...... but my mutt does not like other dogs - she gets jealous.  So I knew where you were coming from....
Friends told me that they could play together............be good together.......good company etc.  My placid dog turned into a nightmare and we felt we had let
her down because she became very unhappy.

Lovely photo of you two.

I expect you were told have a younger dog to make your eight year old play too..........

Well done, Wendy!  Crystal is a gem, literally, I got my badly-treated badly(if at all)-trained darling from her; she is very thorough in her work and you can be sure your Ziggy is in good hands. :)

I do know what you mean about trained dogs being gold dust...  Four years on and this boy still tries to take over, I have to constantly train him, constantly put him in his place, but I love him to bits.

He has only recently begun to take a friendly interest in other dogs, but I know his fear to have his food snatched is still very much alive -he had a wild go at my young cat six months ago, just because she dared to lick the bottom of a tub of Clover once he'd finished with it.

I'm glad I have raised awareness of the lab traffic; vivisection is still rife and not talked about enough because it is so horrible to even think about...
