Disposal of Goodmayes Park Extension

The council is planning to dispose of 25 acres of Goodmayes Park known as Goodmayes Park Extension. I am opposed to this because the park belongs to the public and should not be given to a private organisation, it makes no economic sense to dispose of a public park for just £1 per annum rent, it sets a dangerous precedent for the disposal of other public penned spaces across Redbridge, the land could be put to better use than just football matches such as providing space for a much needed school, there is a lack of information about the private organisation other than it is a small football club with no credentials to assure the public that it is capable of operating such a vast park land, it is unreasonable that the private organisation will get to keep all income generated from the park, it starkly contrasts with another recent lease of land, Ashton Playing Fields where the council negotiated a capital commitment of £2m and £40k per annum. If you have a view and oppose the disposal of this park in Redbridge please let the council know through its public consultation by emailing : info.property@redbridge.gov.uk. Deadline is 22 February 2013.

It had been previously publicised that the Goodmayes Park Extension was to be taken over by Singh Sabha which is hardly a "small football club with no credentials".

They are at least dedicated to protecting the area for sport in the community.

If you build on a open space you can only do so once as it then ceases to be an open space for evermore.

Take a look at the Council's "Preferred Options Report" that proposes a number of schemes for replacing amenity space with housing, schools and polyclinics. If that is what you want then you are entitled to your point of view but beware of what you wish for and "the law of unintended consequences".
