I agree. It will be a great shame if all those talented youngsters both skaters and ice hockey players are stopped from participating in their sports. Sign the petition and get as many of your friends and families that you can to do the same.

yet another broken promise by the council so they get the go ahead to sell off more land. Am I the only one that remembers them saying nothing will go until a suitable , although temporary solution would be found
Vicki F
That is exactly what they said now we have over 500 children with nowhere to go. That's without the adult clubs, schools, scouts, clubs and special need groups that also use it. Please share our Facebook page " Romford wants an ice rink"

Hi Vicki it might be worth you contacting London Tonight.  I have spoken to them today and someone is supposed to be ringing me back.  However, it would be much better if they spoke to someone directly involved.  Their contact number is 0207 430 4000 and email address  londontonight@itvlondon.com.

Its bad that the skaters will have nowhere to train, but its all about money, we don,t need another supermarket but the greedy council wanted to sell the land to the highest bidder, we have a Morrisons just down the road in Dagenham.
I went to Romford Library to look at the plans for Morrisons some time ago in the Q&A paper I put down we don,t need any more supermarkets in Romford,I mentioned it on streetlife that it would be bad for the area to be honest no one was that bothered and a lot of local people want the new supermarket.
I do hope you guys get the temporary ice rink that you want, to be honest noway can i see this council putting up the money for it,I hope you get your own back and vote them out in the next council elections.

This is the standard letter that Cllr White has sent out to everyone who contacted him;

People were happy with the new supermarket, but people were also lead to believe that these children would be given a temporary rink. Everyone we speak to supports these children and are more than happy to sign our petition, judging by the amount of signatures we have already if these kids aren't looked after then many people will definitely look at who they are electing next time round, in fact if we don't find them a temp rink then that might be my next campaign.. To ensure they don't get re elected

I am sure that Michael White was very careful with his original commitment - knowing that it was unlikely that they would have to provide a temporary building for practical reasons!  He bemoans the £40 millions cut in budget by the government as though the Tory Council had no connection whatsoever with the Tory government.  Where are his public protestations about this loss to our local revenue?  The Tories have already dumped their promises on sporting facilities for youngsters from the heady days of the Olympics and now it emerges that his mate Gove at Department of Education is spending hugely disproportionate amounts of our money on so-called free schools (which they intend to allow to make a profit - fee paying schools, subsidised by us the taxpayer, by another name?)  Forget any prospect of help from this Tory council - you're on your own - but your all in it together!!
Romfordian
Where are his public protestations about this loss to our local revenue?
He refused Clr Tucker from requesting lobying the government last year at full council meeting
Lorraine Moss
Hi Romfordian, it is a disgrace how these people have been treated.  Some of the people concerned have planned a peaceful protest outside the Town Hall this evening.

In my view, one of the only solutions to this problem would be to throw out Councillor White and his Conservative colleagues.

If we have a council who spend our money on the wrong things. ( see my post about web-casting) and spend more than £75,000 on the Olympics around Havering, is it no wonder that we have no money left in the pot.

We need to vote for our local Havering Residents Association, at least the HRA  will listen and sort  out something for local people.

They will do something which local and national Conservatives have failed to do. THEY WILL PUT US FIRST.
Romfordian
John H You forgot to mention the  £ 300 + Thousand   that CLR White and the other NINE Tory clrs awarded themselves each year as SRA  Double what other GLA councils recieve
Michael Y
what cll White has done to these young people who just want to continue with ice skating is a disgrace,he has got away with stunts like this many times before, he is more like a dictator than a council leader.
Before he sold of this prime real estate to the supermarket he should of protected the interests of the local residents and the the ice rink users (why not build the new pool & rink first).
I think that when the housing complex at the old oldchurch hosp site is completed ,and the new supermarket and flats are finished with all the extra traffic the area will become grid locked.
Michael White can not be trusted it was his council that lost £12 million of council tax money in poor icelandic bank investments and it was his council who voted 29-19 to merge King Geoges & Queens A&E units.
Mark L
Well I always think people get the elected officials their deserve, the amount of people you here saying its not worth voting as nothing changes, this is why we finish up with the self centered leaders we currently have.
I guess most  on here do vote the way of their conscious dictates but so many dont.
I always tell everyone if your not happy vote for someone else for goodness sake

Romfordian

Many thanks for the information.

I'ts good to know where our money is going. Perhaps the politicians thought they were worth the extra cash.
Romfordian
Spot on Mark L The councilors in this borough are elected by people who only see the colour of the rosete unfortunaty in this area Blue i would like to see a lot more R As as they are concernd with the wards they represent not the mai political partys
JH
What do we morrisons for - yet another supermarket - i suppose they will think again when their carpark is taken over by hospital visitors - another bung to the council no doult
Vicki F
The hospital will lose half it's car park facilities to allow for the Morrisons to be built!!! Yet another fact the council forgot to mention, along with the fact that havering council currently give lee valley 258k per year to help fund their leisure facilities !
mad artful dodger greg s
why put it there would it be better to fill the empty shops in the center of romford
what about the traffic it will cause in the enttrance rood to queens hosp
come on havering use that thing holding  your ear apart and think what you are doing
John H
Romfordian

Your link was very interesting, many thanks for posting it.

No wonder there is so little cash about, These folk seem to be doing very well.
Dave T
A bit of a simplistic suggestion but thought I'd put it out there - What about the empty Littlewoods site? Would make a perfect ice rink location.
Oki B
As far back as November 2007 Havering council planned to shut the rink yet they didnt have the foresight to provide a temporary rink!!
I'm with Romford Ice Rink
