is torrage green?
wonder if Torrage District Council are really green. TThere vans carry the slogan don` let torrage go to waste when they dont like other councils supply black wheelie bins for household rubbish and let us all use dustbin bags when many of these take over 100 years to break down. Are they hipotrical? I know that in parts of the area wheelie bins are inpractical but for the majority they could be used

I have to add that if people recycled their rubbish responsibly and did not leave rubbish out overnight for the wind, animals and birds to disrupt maybe it would not be so bad. Also when the refuse lorries have done their round it would not hurt people to pick up any items that may have fallen by the wayside.
We only fill a black bag once a fortnight as we recycle as much as possible and if it is windy we put out the rubbish as late as possible.
I know if one is working this is not always possible but we should all do as much as we can to keep this area clean and tidy.
We only put our black bag out every 2 or even 3 weeks. This has mostly come about since discovering that plastic can be erecycled at Bideford recycling centre. I have allocated a separate bin for al our plastics and take them up there when its full or if we're heading in that direction. It is out of our way as we live on Churchill way but I bel,I've its worth it to keep it out of landfill-I'm not brave enough to take it all back to the supermarket it comes from in the first place! I know some people who have though!
Maybe there should be a campaign to highlight this additional service in Bideford. Barnstaple doesn't have this facility (not when I last visited their recycling centre anyway).
I also buy biodegradable black bags which are pretty rubbish themselves but as we only have a small bag to go out, it's not such a problem.
I have a workers in the garden so anything that can go in there does! The other food waste goes in the green caddy.
Come to think of I'm not sure what does go in our black bag at all!
In fact Torrage is a community organisation based at the volunteer centre in
Torrington but contactable also via TTVS. I has a Heritage Lottery grant for
the establishment of fifteen "Neighbourhood Link" groups over a five year
period. Each NL is effectively a self-help group for older people (over 60)
in a variety of local communities across the Torridge District.
Examples so far include Morwenna in Northam, Londonderry in Bideford
and Holsworthy Help. The ground work has started in Hartland and others
may exist as I have not been in contact with them recently. Details are
available from TTVS in Bridgeland Street.
One of their initiatives was "Snow Patrol" to assist people with ensuring
that they got shopping supplies during icy weather - but we do not seem to
have had very much snow in the more urban areas in recent months.
