Jewish books donation

I recently bought a flat belonging to an old Jewish couple who sadly passed away.  There are approximately 1000 books (mainly Jewish theme) that I would like to donate.  Some of these books might be out of print, so perhaps precious to some.  Does anyone know any organization that can come and collect them?

I am also looking to get rid of some of the furniture, sofas chairs etc.

Any recommendations would be most appreciated.  The flat needs to be cleared out soon.

Hi , Catherine, it is nice of you not to dump those jewish books. I know some jewish charities that would love to get they hands on it., but can not get they numbers right now. My daughter inlaw works fpr a jewish charity , UJIA. If you want I can get them off your hand, and distribute to them.

What area do you live? If I can not collect, i will get somebody to do it for me.

Hi Catherine,
Josh here from the Ham&High newspaper. We'd love to help find them a home by doing an appeal in the paper.
Give me a ring and we can sort something out.

Hi Catherine

I think some jewish charity will benefit much more from the books , than putting them in a museum. I know a lot of people than run jewish charities, and as I said will be glad to take them of your hands.

If you live in highgate it is just down the road from me, and i can pick them up very quick.

But as you said , you will work through, and whatever you decide to do, I will respect.

There is a Jewish charity in West End Lane that would be interested. I live just opposite the shop & would be happy to pick anything up. Lat me know if you are left with anything, but it sounds like you already have a lot of interest.

I would be very happy to help you sort out these books so that they find a good home or if they are very old prayerbooks which might not be usable ,they can be disposed of appropriately.

Hi Catherine,

My husband would be most interested in seeing the books as he collects old books.

Where do you live and how can we contact you?

Best wishes,  Emma

Hi again, Catheirine,

I see there is this blank space with my name that I can't delete. Do you have a phone number my husband could contact you on?

Best, Emma

HI Catherine

Some good friends on mine work at ORT, a Jewish charity based in Camden. I am sure they could find a good use for them. If you give me a call I can put you in touch.

I may be up for taking some furniture off your hands too if it's still going spare. What's there?

Regards

Richard

Regarding the furniture. If you register with Gumtree and post an advert in the Freebies section saying roughly what you want to get rid of, and emphasise people need transport and the day to collect stuff usually goes quickly. It does involve a few emails (through Gumtree) to keep track of applicants but people recieving freebies are usually so grateful. http://www.gumtree.com/
