Anyone can rehome our cat ? 6 years old black and white Female named Chelsea :D......Very nice, well behaved, good with kids. Our landlord doesnt accpet pets so this is the reason why we need to give her away. Thanks
Sorry but if the landlord doesn't accept pets I wouldn't live there. Hope the cat does find a new forever home though, but it might need a name change for any cat loving football fans!
Anybody see the story about the homeless man who turned down the chance of a place to live because it was not suitable for his cat, and he won't accept it?
5 million tonnes of plastic (and polystyrene) packaging goes to landfill each year in the UK. Much plastic is of course recycled, but for various reasons an awful lot isn't, and instead is buried (discarded on our streets/polluting our seas), taking ... [ more ]
Already signed. Thanks for posting it, it's a worthwhile thing that I also posted to Facebook.
Another thing worth banning would be "disposable nappies". Because they are not! Virtually every one ever made is still in a landfill site somewhere. But I guess Mumsnet couldn't care less.....
Alan L: I do not believe it! Maybe I could get some for the local pigeons!!!
Good morning everyone I write with disturbing news. Yesterday late afternoon there was a double accident outside Earlsfield station whereby a female pedestrian collided with a moped whilst attempting to cross the road. In the subsequent initial ... [ more ]
Based on past experience I'd bet the moped was most to blame.....
I look left, right and check that the approaching driver is not on their mobile before I step in front of them!
I used to drive, but at my age I decided to give up my licence because my reactions are slower. Shame more old people don't realise this. Mind you, it's usually the arrogant youngsters who cause the worst accidents.....
Hardly, they're idiots but not likely to kill someone other than themselves.....
Nowhere near. Not even close. And pedestrians have priority because we are all born with the right to use the Queens Highway. But motorists need a licence and road tax......
Untrue. The onus is always on the motorist. And rightly so.
If I have a foot on a zebra a motorist is obliged to stop. Otherwise they commit an offence. FACT.
Highway Code Rule 195: You MUST give way to a pedestrian who has moved onto a crossing.
......Unless you're a cyclist of course!
Dmitriy: I always treat all motorists as potential lunatics, that's the way to survive if you're a pedestrian.
Chris, I don't need a jacket or a bell, I am the God of Hellfire and I bring you......
Chris...I used to issue FPNs, not PCNs. The ones that landed you in court before a magistrate. And I always won my case........
Sarah B: it's FPN not FCN. Fixed Penalty Notice. Two types, Endorseable and Non Endorseable. The first put points on your licence and fine you. The second just fine you. Congratulations if you really didn't know what an FPN is, you've obviously never ... [ more ]
Dmitriy: could be, I worked for the Police not the Council, we ONLY issued FPNs, although at one time we did also issue ECNs for the Council's. That's Excess Charge Notice for overstaying on a meter. You used to get two for that offence, an ECN and an ... [ more ]
During the course of my employment, I drive between Wandsworth, Lambeth and Lewisham on a daily basis. I have done this for many years, but am now finding it very stressful due to the 'harassment' I receive from other drivers when I adhere to the 20 ... [ more ]
As the average speed of London traffic is about 8mph, I can see no reason why the whole of London should not be subject to a speed limit of 20mph. That way everyone would know where they stand and enforcement would be easier. Accidents and deaths ... [ more ]
People totally missing the point I made. The AVERAGE speed is already 8mph. Just that nutters speed when on side streets but then hit the jams. OVERALL 20mph speed limit would not make that much difference. And no, it should not just be near schools. ... [ more ]
People moaning that slower speeds mean longer commutes should just get up earlier. Your saving time is very unimportant compared to saving lives through not speeding.
At the end of the day, if I can't get up earlier, I'd rather be five minutes late for work than several years early for my own funeral (or worse someone elses.....)
In my last job I'd already done two and a half hours work by 9.30!!!
I realised that, I was just saying my working day was 7 to 7. Or my working night was 7 to 7. Plus half an hour each way on the bus. So you can see I didn't like traffic jams much either.
I just couldn't be bothered driving was why I used the bus. Let the poor old bus driver have all the aggro of cyclists and jams, I could read the newspaper.....!
Everybody has the option of using a bus to get to and from work. Or are you a travelling salesman?!
It doesn't take much research to realise that the slower the speed the less serious the injury.....SLOW DOWN!
And still the speed deniers won't accept that speed kills, or at least seriously injured.
Not how I'm reading these comments. Seems everybody thinks 20mph is too slow for them.
As Ian says, budget cuts have decimated the old Traffic Police. But we could install more cameras, they can be used to issue speeding fines. Plus they could monitor other criminal activities as well. Big Brother? Who cares, I've got nothing to hide, ... [ more ]
Adding more strength to my argument. A London wide 20mph limit would be cheaper on signs at least. You wouldn't need any, just a TMO.
No it isn't too slow. It's four or five times the average walking speed, so why must your rushing around possibly cost someone else their life?
Speeding is bad all around London. Motorists care nothing for anybody but how quick they can get where they want to go. Selfish and inconsiderate once they get behind the steering wheel of their weapon of choice.
No, we might as well haven a blanket 20mph limit, that way more people survive, and you motorists still get there.....eventually
No, should be able to continue to do 20mph.
Shahid, anybody can look up the stats that prove, as they have for years, that a pedestrian is more likely to survive being hit at 20mph than faster. And why do you need stats to prove basic commonsense anyway?
Its not a case of refuting anything that speeding motorists say or believe, it's just a matter of repeating the long established fact that speed kills.
Sometimes even when you travel at 31mph in a 30 zone.....
So "decent roads" are those that allow you to drive at a higher speed? Typical petrolhead/polluter
Stella, what's confusing about slowing down, why is everything today about speed and "now"
Speed deniers. Perhaps rather than impose speed limits we should just ban cars completely and only allow professional drivers on our roads in vehicles that have their maximum speed restricted. To 20mph in cities.
So you're saying that slowing down makes drivers lives difficult? How selfish, always put the driver first and * everybody else.
Speed kills. Fact. End of argument. Happy Christmas everybody.
Shahid, it is not up to me to prove anything, the figures are in the public domain for anyone who cares about road safety to access, why don't you try it? As for driving, no I gave up my licence recently after 50 years of driving without one accident, ... [ more ]
Actually I gave up smoking about ten years ago....! And my opinion on motorists, especially some commenting on here has always been the same. Unfortunately, lots of innocent pedestrians and other motorists suffer because of their "me me" attitude.
Yeah Ian N, that's one driver who needs to be permanently removed from the road. Hope everyone recovers.
30 in a 20 zone is also speeding......
Lots of people on here sound like the Jim Steinman / Meatloaf song. "I wasn't built for comfort, I was built for speed"...!
Evidence is easy, install more cameras
Tyranny to make people drive carefully? Oh please!
Jo P, it's nice to see some sensible comments on here regarding speeding motorists.
Your comments do not appear to support your protestations however
Totally wrong again mate. I am all for 20 mph zones everywhere, unlike you, as less speed equals more people alive. You just want consultations and restrictions near schools. I want speeds reduced everywhere for everyone's benefit, not for a few where ... [ more ]
Mike, you have to realise that with the average car journey being probably less than ten miles, that could add 250 seconds to a driver's journey. That's over six whole minutes! God forbid they have to lose over five minutes of their lives to maybe ... [ more ]
My point is that I agree that a few seconds is not worth a life. But it seems I'm in a minority. Hopefully the 20 mph zones will be increased to slow traffic down.
Maria S: I did not mention six miles. The average journey is allegedly ten miles. The extra time by slowing down is apparently 25 seconds per mile. So 10 x 25 would add 250 seconds to an average ten mile journey. Or it did when I went to school (mind ... [ more ]
Don't remember saying that 250 seconds was a whole six minutes, but if I did it must have been a senior moment. But whatever, minutes are not worth someone's life, so slow down.
Now you're having one; I'm MTO not a car certificate of fitness!!!
They don't work like that now, they know when you slow down and work out your average speed. If it's too high you get the points. Tough!
Well you can always try Peter's suggestion and see if you get anything in the post can't you......
Deaths are lower than ever before? Really?
So keep slowing down traffic and the figures should get even better then. Although I doubt the two poor people who got hit in London yesterday (one dead so far) would be interested in these statistics.....
I applaud what you say Jo P, but unfortunately I am not optimistic that this will happen in my lifetime. I hope it happens in yours. Since the day mankind first walked upright on two legs we have been systematically destroying the earth in some way, ... [ more ]
Pedestrians cannot be licensed, every Briton is born with the right to walk the Queens Highway! Cyclists are a different matter however.....like the one I just saw cycle past my house, no lights, no hands and texting on a mobile. At least he was on ... [ more ]
Hi all, our cat was sighted last night in and around dingly lane (between dewstead road and woodfield ave, near Henry Cavendish Primary). We went out and got close enough to confirm it was him, unfortunately he seems quite startled so after a couple ... [ more ]

So sorry. Sad ending to the story.
Morning all As you can all see, we have been requested to verify our address. I don't mind this at all. What i do mind is giving my bank card information to a website that I have little knowledge of, and how strong is their Security. For a month ... [ more ]
Strange, when I joined I recall being asked for my details (name, address etc), clicked a button and done. No need to prove anything or verify anything other than that. Mind you, I am on the electoral register and have lived at my address over 25 ... [ more ]
Weird! No way would I give the details you're being asked for even by post. What's going on?
I cannot remember all the detail when I joined but I know it was easy, did not involve giving personal stuff like card details and did not involve post, just e mail.
All my messages appear in notifications. To send one (on a tablet anyway), click on someone's profile picture and it brings up a page to send them a private message, or at least mine does. I don't know however if "unverified" Streetlifers can use this ... [ more ]
Every time I get an e mail from Streetlife it has a huge verify yourself at the front. I already did when I joined. What's going on with this lot???
A couple of years ago a cat that looked like a small dark leopard started appearing in our garden. I think it's a Bengal and it has lost part of its tail so easy to identify. From the start it was aggressive, frequently attacking our fairly small ... [ more ]
I feel for you and your cat but unfortunately can offer no real practical advice. The owner of this cat is obviously one of those anti social a*holes we all encounter from time to time and is unlikely to respond.
Actually I already assumed that this person is not a Streetlifer........
I don't currently have a cat, unless you count the feral I feed twice a day in an attempt to get it to come in, but every cat (all rescues or strays) I've ever had never had a problem with other cats or foxes, except when I had a neighbour with an ... [ more ]
Point taken UnderTheFlightPath, but when it turns up around 5 am every freezing morning, my wife won't turn it away. It's very scared of humans and if it has got a home they must be ill treating it and shutting it out. So we'll show it some TLC ... [ more ]
As I've said it's semi feral and very nervous, can't get hold of it....yet! Funnily enough it's sitting on my patio as I type, probably wants more roast chicken as it had some earlier. How do cats know it's Sunday roast day....?
Has anyone got a dvd player the dont want or need anymore, for my grandson, his ones just given up the ghost( too much tele tubbies) lol
I have several, most are recorders and/or Freeview as well or Blu Ray. The easiest one for me to get at in my shed is a Sony model which will also record if connected up right. I have the original instruction book and it should still work although ... [ more ]
Just got to find one lead and it's all systems go. The one I can get at is a Sony DVD Player/Recorder. It does not have Freeview however. I have the instructions and remote control, as it's an older model you will need to connect it to the TV with a ... [ more ]
I have noticed a large rat feeding under my bird table and scuttling back under my shed. Has anyone any advice on getting rid of it( them) as heard they breed very quickly! Thanks Jan
I know it's a problem as I live beside the railway and I feed the birds. Whatever you do DON'T stop feeding the birds as they need the food in winter. The poison that Wilko sell is not always effective as some rodents are immune it seems. I only use ... [ more ]
Or in it as my wife's says when I tell her I'm going down the shed.....
Rather than take it to the dump, I wondered whether there is a better alternative? It's the old fashioned deep sort. Little used and also has international connection settings .

There was a black cat reported missing down Eastfields Station way recently. The posters seem to have been ripped down so not sure if vandals or found. I'll try to find a poster tomorrow and update if you have no luck.....
Aah! Go on, let it in, you know you want to!
Having looked at Google Maps, I think it's too far from Eastfields, but I'll still try to find one of the posters in the morning.
sc m .....True, unfortunately!
Cannot find any of the posters around Eastfields as yet, still looking, hoping it's Bear or chipped though,..
Contacted the loser of the cat around Eastfields area. Here has returned, so not that one it seems. Any news on getting the chip checked?
That's "hers" has returned!!!
Hope it all works out OK for you and the cat. Strange though that they "can't" call the number until 9am.....
Well done Anna for looking after Harry. I'm just hoping that it wasn't a case of the owner leaving the poor animal to fend for itself while they went away.....
